Orientation program for PWD’s under SVEEP Programme

Chandigarh, 28th March, 2019:  Determined to make the upcoming elections inclusive in every way, the Election Department Chandigarh under the SVEEP Programme today organized an orientation workshop for PwDs (Persons with disabilities) at Asha Kiran, sector-46, Chandigarh. The event was presided by Sh. Mandip Singh Brar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Electoral Officer. During the workshop, an interaction session was held wherein the PwDs were apprised about new voter Ids, VVPAT machines and disabled-friendly measures taken up by the Election Commission of India for the Lok Sabha Elections 2019. These included organizing special awareness programmes, pick and drop facility for polling stations, disabled friendly App and sensitization camps for training of EVM/VVPAT machine.   The Election Department Chandigarh gave live demonstration of EVM & VVPAT machine to address the issues of PwDs regarding the electoral process. Meeting held with bankers by District Electoral Officer

Chandigarh, 28th March, 2019:  A meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Electoral Officer, Sh. Mandip Singh Brar with the representatives of various Banks in the city to discuss the implementation of guidelines contained in the Compendium of instructions on Election expenditure and Standard Operating Procedure for transportation of cash by ATM vans. The representatives were directed to keep a strict vigil on the election-related expenditure by the candidates and political parties during the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India. They were asked to report unusual and suspicious cash withdrawals or deposit of cash exceeding Rs. 1 lakh during the process of election, unusual transfer of amount by RTGS to the account of several persons without any precedent of such transfer, or suspicious transactions which might be used to bribe the electors during the election process. Manoj Parida, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, U.T Chandigarh-cum-Ex-Officio President of the "Society for the Care of the Blind" today presided over the 44th Annual General Body Meeting of the members of the society held at the Institute of Blind, sector-26 Chandigarh. Hospitality Industry launches campaign in the city under the SVEEP Programme to boost voter participation

Chandigarh, 26th March, 2019: As a part of the ongoing SVEEP programme, the Deputy Commissioner cum Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Sh. Mandip Singh Brar today launched the banner for the awareness campaign initiated by restaurant and hotel owners of Chandigarh for General Elections 2019.  With the message of "Eat Pure, Vote for Sure", the objective of the campaign is to maximize voter registration and turnout during the upcoming elections. This message will be displayed on banners and standee’s at all leading hotels, restaurants and eateries of the city, as well as stamped on their bills and other receipts, so that the importance of becoming a voter and exercising the right to vote gets conveyed to each visitor. Chief Electoral Officer holds meeting to make election accessible for PwD voters

Chandigarh, 25th March, 2019:  In view of the upcoming elections, a meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner cum Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Sh. Mandip Singh Brar with the representatives from various Banks. The meeting focused on ways to maximize voter awareness and participation. In order to improve participation of all sections of electorate, suggestions were made by all the bank representatives to boost the awareness programme and motivate the voters. In order to increase the  SVEEP (Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation) programme in the city, awareness has been created among different segments of the society like, medical institutions, hotel industry, and now with the banks. The Deputy Commissioner also suggested that special awareness camps can be organized to facilitate the bankers with complete information regarding the entire electoral process, particularly the usage of EVM machine & VVPAT, thereby ...
