Chandigarh, 1 st September, 2016:     The Department of Health & Family Welfare U.T., Chandigarh is conducting a Leprosy Case Detection Campaign (LCDC) from 5 th – 18 th September 2016 in the targeted areas of the city to detect the hidden Leprosy cases and to spread awareness about the disease. In this regard, a meeting was held on 31.08.2016 under the chairmanship of Sh. Anurag Agarwal, IAS, Secretary Health Chandigarh. He emphasized that to eradicate Leprosy, people should come and reveal the disease rather than conceal it so that the treatment can be provided at the earliest. During the campaign, a house to house search activity will be carried out by trained field health workers. A population of around 7 lacs will be covered by 575 teams. The purpose of the campaign is to look for patients having depigmented or hypopigmented patches on the skin along with loss of sensations or deformity in hands or feet. This is in continuation of previous Six Health Camps held at Daddu Majra, Maulijagran, Dhanas, Ramdarbar, PHD-25 and Civil Dispensary, Sector 8. Dr. Vanita Gupta, Director Health Services said that the doctors from various specialities like Medicine, Gynae., Skin, Eye , ENT will be examining patients and will be providing free consultation.
