Meeting held with IT companies to maximize SVEEP campaign

Chandigarh, 12th April, 2019: A meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner cum Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Sh. Mandip Singh Brar with representatives of IT & Telecom sector to discuss activities that can be initiated by them under the SVEEP programme to maximize electoral participation. Inputs were given by each company representative on how they can play a role in motivating their employees to register as new voters and be a part of Lok Sabha Elections 2019 by voting on 19 May, 2019. Some suggestions included promoting voter literacy through posters, Badges, stickers and other merchandise along with voting taglines to be incorporated in company newsletters and mails, promotional messages, campaigns on social media pages, organizing electoral awareness camps and activating mobile vans that demonstrate the working of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and voter verifiable paper audit trails (VVPATs).  The representatives were informed...

District Election Officer reviews election preparedness in the constituency of Chandigarh

Chandigarh, 9th April, 2019:  A review meeting was held today under the chairmanship of District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner, Sh. Mandip Singh Brar with the Nodal Officers to assess the election preparedness for Lok Sabha Elections 2019 in Chandigarh. Media coverage during the period referred to in Section 126A of RP Act, 1951 violations

Chandigarh, 9th April, 2019:  With the announcement of the Election Programme on 10.3.2019, the Model Code of Conduct came into immediate effect.  The Election Commission of India is of the view that prediction of results in any form or manner by way of predictions etc. by Astrologers, Tarot Readers, Political Analysis or by any person during the prohibited period is violation of the spirit of Section 126A which aims to prevent the electors of constituencies still going to poll from being influenced in their voting by such predictions about the prospects of the various political parties. Chandigarh, 9th April, 2019:  It is for the information to the general public/residents of Chandigarh that the registration for participating in e-auction of vehicle registration numbers of left over special/fancy registration numbers of previous series   “CH01-BW”, “CH01-BV”, “CH01-BU”, “CH01-BT” & “CH01-BS” (list enclosed) will be started from 13.04.2019 (10:00 AM) and will continue till 20.04.2019 (05:00 PM). The e-auction/bidding will be started from 21.04.2019 (10:00 AM) to 23.04.2019 (05:00PM). The owner of the vehicle can register himself/herself on the National Transport website: https://vahan.parivahan.gov.in/fancy and the link of the same is available on the Chandigarh Administration, Transport Department website: www.chdtransport.gov.in and obtain the Unique Acknowledgement Number (UAN).
