Chandigarh, 24 th October 2019: The DBT Scheme for foodgrains has been implemented from the month of September, 2015 in UT Chandigarh and Territory became the first UT/State to implement such scheme in the country. Under this scheme, the food subsidy in the form of cash is being transferred directly into Aadhar seeded bank accounts of the eligible households/ beneficiaries based on their entitlement for foodgrains under the NFSA and the beneficiaries are free to purchase foodgrains of their choice and from any place. The main aim of this Direct Benefit Transfer scheme is to bring transparency and terminate any kind of pilferage from distribution of food grains by crediting subsidies into bank accounts of the beneficiaries and give freedom to the beneficiaries to purchase foodgrains from the open market as per choice.
