World No Tobacco day to be celebrated on 31st May, 2019

Chandigarh, 30 th May, 2019:: Health Department, UT Chandigarh is going to celebrate World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) on 31st May, 2019 throughout the city with the theme of “Tobacco and lung health”. The objective to celebrate this day is to raise awareness on the harmful and deadly effects of tobacco use and passive smoke exposure and to discourage the use of tobacco in any form. The ill effect of tobacco ranges from cancer to chronic respiratory diseases. Tobacco smoking is the primary cause for lung cancer, responsible for over two third of lung cancer deaths globally. Passive smoke exposure at home or in the work place also increases risk of lung cancer. Tobacco is a single most preventable cause of death in the world. Tobacco smoke is a very dangerous form of indoor air pollution; though smoke may be invisible it can linger in the air for up to five hours putting those exposed at risk of lung cancer, chronic respiratory diseases and reduced lung function. Chandigarh, 29 th  May 2019,  Chandigarh Commission for protection of child rights in collaboration with Education Department, UT, Chandigarh celebrated World No Tobacco day and international Children day by organizing Poster making, Slogan writing and Theatrical Competitions among school children of Chandigarh schools with the objective of sensitization and creating awareness on Child Abuses. The sensitization program is a deemed effort by Chandigarh Commission for protection of child rights towards child-friendly Chandigarh. In this sensitization program various Government and private schools across the city participated. Twenty six teams performed the productions on Drug Abuse, POCSO Sensitization and Child labor. Chandigarh, 29 th  May 2019:   The half yearly Cost of Living Index Numbers of Chandigarh Centre (Base 2001 = 100) for industrial workers, issued by Labour Bureau, Shimla for the months of October, 2018 to March, 2019 are 1599.04, 1593.78, 1583.26, 1604.30, 1604.30 and 1614.82 respectively.  Thus the average cost of living index numbers as on 31.03.2019 is 1600. The previous average cost of living index number was 1561 points for the quarter ending 30.09.2018. Therefore, increase in average cost of living index number is 39 points and per point neutralization in minimum rates of wages for monthly rated employees under the Minimum Wages Act is Rs. 7/-. Thus minimum rates of wages for each category of employees have been increased by Rs. 273/- p.m. on the increase of 39 points.  The following are the minimum rates of wages payable for monthly & daily rated employees for the period starting from  0 1 .04.2019 to 30.09.2019 : S.No. ...
