Chandigarh, 13th February, 2016: On the lines of Trekking in Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary
every month, Forest & Wildlife Department has started ‘Bicycling Activity’
in UT Chandigarh every month to promote the bicycling activity amongst the public
and to sensitize them about the need of the bicycling. The Calendar for
Bicycling Activity has already been uploaded on the website.
In this series, the first ‘Bicycling
activity’ was conducted in collaboration with NGOs – Yuvsatta, Chandigarh and
Go Green Cycling Club of India on 13th February,
2016 in Reserved Forest area behind Sukhna Lake started at Smriti Van which was
flagged off by Shri Vijay Kumar Dev, IAS, Hon’ble Advisor to the Administrator,
UT Chandigarh at 1000 hrs. Shri Vijay Dev himself led the volunteers of Go
Green Cycling club and pedal the cycling from his residence to Smriti van area
behind Sukhna lake. Around 100 people participated in this event. The aim of
this Bicycling activity was to spread the message of ‘Save Forest, Save Wildlife’
among various stakeholders of the society and to promote cycling in the City.
On this occasion, Chief Guest
informed that these celebrations have a great significance today. With the
specter of global warming and depletion of the ozone layer being attributed to
environmental degradation, there is an urgent need to recognize and work for
the preservation and conservation of environment. He emphasized the need for
holding such type of Cycle Rallies on regular basis to create awareness amongst
the people of Chandigarh so that Cycling becomes a habit for city residents.
Cycling is Healthy, Environment Friendly and convenient options for all of us.
Among
prominent persons attending the event were Shri, Shri Santosh Kumar, IFS, Chief
Conservator of Forests, Shri Birendra Choudhary, IFS, DCF, Ms.Arpana, IFS, ACF
, Shri Pradeep Bhagat, Principal, Architecture College, Shri Sanjeev Sagar,
President, Go Green cycling club, Shri Pramod Sharma, coordinator, Yuvsatta
etc. The event was attended by various Teachers, Students, NSS Volunteers and
residents of Chandigarh.
