Chandigarh, 17th February, 2016: 6th Civil Military
Liaison Conference was held today at Haryana Raj Bhawan, Chandigarh, under the
Chairmanship of H.E the Governor of Punjab and Haryana and Administrator, U.T.
Chandigarh, Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki. Many long standing issues as of
transfer of 5.2 acres land for Air Force Officers Institute in Sector 31, Air
Warriors Welfare Centre in Sector 47-B and Kendriya Vidyalaya in
Sector 47-C, Chandigarh were resolved, which will benefit a large
section of serving and retired defence personnel and their families. Exemption
of House Tax upto 300 sq yard plots for serving and retired Defence Personnel
was intimated as also the introduction of roster for reservation in jobs for
retired Defence Personnel.
While appreciating the role of armed forces
Chairman said that any country can progress only if its citizens feel secure
and at peace. He emphasized the importance of holding such meetings regularly
so that issues of the Defence Forces Personnel and of the Civil Administration
do not remain unresolved for long.
Sh. Sarvjit Singh, IAS, Finance Secretary,
U.T. Administration, who was leading the team of senior officers of U.T.
Administration, ensured that issue of allotment of land parcels for a Girls Hostel, Armed Forces Tribunal, Primary
wing of Kendriya Vidyalaya in Sector 47 and will also be resolved in shortest possible time.
The issue of providing a shorter route from
Chandigarh to the Chandigarh International Airport at Mohali was also discussed
and the Air Force Authorities have urged to suggest a workable solution. Chairman urged for a joint survey of the area for an
early resolution of the matter.
Sh. Anurag Agarwal, IAS, Home Secretary,
disclosed that as far as reservation and pay protection of the ex-servicemen on
re-employment in civil administration is concerned, Chandigarh Administration
has already adopted the Punjab pattern. Similarly, for giving compensation and
concessional benefits to next of kin of deceased defense personnel, Punjab
policy has been adopted by the Chandigarh Administration.
A short film on daily unit routine in Army and
a resume on internal security by the DIG Sh. A.S. Cheema, IPS was also
presented.
Lt Gen KJ Singh GOC in C Western Command
appreciated the cooperation extended by the Administration from time to time in
dealing with their issues promptly. He highlighted his concern for security of
military establishments and Air Force Base in the emerging scenario of
terrorist attacks in the recent past.
Concluding the Conference, the Administrator
expressed his satisfaction on the issues resolved and called upon all the
officers present in the meeting to work wholeheartedly for the welfare of our
nation, its citizens and the defence forces in particular.
Sh. M.P. Singh, IAS, Principal Secretary to
Governor of Punjab, Sh. Vikram Dev Dutt, IAS, Lt. Gen. Gurdeep
Singh, Major Gen. Subodh Kumar, Major Gen. Joydeep Bhati, Sh. Ajit Balaji
Joshi, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh and Dr. Sukhchain Singh Gill,
IPS, SSP, Chandigarh were also present in the meeting.
