26 February, 2016: As per the endeavour of the Department of Cultural Affairs,
Chandigarh Administration to augment classical music, and providing a Cultural Soul
to city beautiful activities like - “Naad Vatika” Culture in the Parks
shows had been initiated.
Adding to this chain is now classical vocal singer Monika Soni will perform on this
Saturday that
is on 27.02.2016 at Rose Garden, Sector 16 Chandigarh, from 4:00
PM onward.
Monika Soni, a budding Hindustani classical vocalist has been blessed with
a melodious voice, brilliant mind and innovative thoughtfulness. Hailing from
the Brass City Rewari, Haryana monika is pursuing ‘doctoral degree’
(PhD) in Music.
Monika started singing at a tender age of 6.
She began the journey with bhajans, film songs and patriotic songs taught to
her by her father Sh. Gyan Chand Soni who used to write them for her on his
own. He is also a good composer. Monika started learning the initials of Indian
Classical Music under Pt. Ramgopal Tripathi of Banares. Later she went to
Banasthali University and learnt under the auspicious guidance of Dr. Chetna
Banawat, a senior disciple of Padma Vibhushan Dr. Prabha Atre. Monika has been
a scholar at Dr. Gangubai Hangal Gurukul, Hubli in Karnataka for 4 years. Now
she is learning the minutiae of Hindustnai Classical Music under the tutelage
of the Kirana Gharana maestro Pt. Mani Prasadji.
