Conference for Kerosene Free City

Chandigarh, 18th March, 2016: One day Conference was held today on Making Chandigarh a ‘Kerosene Free City’ organized by the Department of Food & Supplies and Consumer Affairs & Legal Metrology, U.T., Chandigarh at the Conference Hall, U.T., Guest House, Chandigarh. The conference was chaired by the Sh. Parimal Rai, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, U.T., Chandigarh. Sh. Ashutosh Jindal, Joint Secretary(Marketing),Ministry of Petroleum & natural Gas, Government of India also visited the city to take an overview of the schemes, for the facilitation of kerosene oil using households by releasing new LPG connections, being run by the Chandigarh Administration in collaboration with the Oil Marketing Companies. The conference was also attended by Sh. Arun Sood, Mayor, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, Smt. Bhawana Garg, IAS Secretary Food & Supplies and Consumer Affairs & Legal Metrology, U.T., Chandigarh, Sh. Ajit Balaji Joshi, IAS Deputy Commissioner-cum-Director Food & Supplies and Consumer Affairs & Legal Metrology, U.T., Chandigarh, the Area Councilors, Municipal Corporation, the Sarpanches of Gram Panchayats, and  senior officers of the Oil Marketing Companies.

The Union Territory of Chandigarh is in the process of being declared kerosene free city from 31st March, 2016 and onwards. Therefore, the Department of  Food & Supplies and Consumer Affairs & Legal Metrology, U.T., Chandigarh in association with the Oil Marketing Companies, Government of India has started 02 schemes to facilitate the kerosene oil using families by providing them with the LPG connections-
1)    “Deposit Free LPG Connection Scheme” for BPL & AAY households, where these families will be provided with 1 LPG cylinder, 1 Regulator (worth Rs.1600/- without) free of cost. However the cost of other equipments will have to be borne by the consumer. The Gas Connection forms are available free of cost at all the LPG dealers.
2)    “Zero Percent Interest Loan Scheme” for the rest of the kerosene oil using households who are not covered under the poverty line, but do not have an LPG connection.
The eligible and interested households will be provided with 1 LPG cylinder, 1 Regulator, & 1 Suraksha Pipe (worth Rs.1740/-) under the 0 %  Interest Scheme. However the cost of other equipments will have to be borne by the consumer. The Gas Connection forms are available with all the LPG Dealers, at the Office of Food & Supplies, Sector-17, with all the MCs and the Sarpanches free of cost.
The loan amount will be recovered by the Chandigarh Administration from the subsidy amount on subsequent refills by an individual till the actual financed amount is recovered. The undertaking for the same will be signed by the applicant.
In the conference, brief introduction and presentation on the making of Chandigarh a kerosene free city was delivered. Along with this, the role of the Oil Marketing Companies in the whole process was also discussed. On this occasion, the logo of Kerosene Free Chandigarh, the radio jingles to be aired on All India Radio and other local FM Radio channels and a short film to be shown in all cinemas of the city, were released by the Adviser to the Administrator.
Adviser to the Administrator addressing the gathering stated that the incentive taken by the Chandigarh Administration and the Oil Marketing Companies is a noble cause as it will save people from the hazardous effects of using kerosene as  cooking fuel. He also urged the public representatives present in the conference to extend their full cooperation to this scheme so that the benefits of the schemes could be rendered to every needy household. In response , the representatives also applauded the scheme and assured to support the campaign. During the conference an open discussion was also held in which the public representatives had their queries which were satiated by the Advisor to the Administrator himself as well as by the Joint Secretary, GoI and the other officers.
Also, today, the Department of Food & Supplies and Consumer Affairs & Legal Metrology released the schedule of organizing  ‘Special Camps’ in different areas of the city, in association with the local Area Councilors/Sarpanches and the LPG Distributors of the concerned areas/villages to facilitate the kerosene oil using families. The Camps will be arranged in all areas of the city till 30th March, the first one starting from today in the area of Kajheri and Sector-56,Palsora.On 19.03.2016, 02 camps will be organized. The timings of all camps will be from 11:00 AM- 7:00 PM.
Camp 1- For Sector-29, Industrial Area Phase-I, Sanjay Colony and Colony No.4.

Camp 2- For Sector-31, 47, 48, Entire Industrial Area Phase-II.
