Chandigarh,
31st March, 2016: As per the direction of
Smt. Kriti Garg, IAS, SDM, South, a team consisting of Three Sanitary Inspector
i.e. One Chief Sanitary Inspector and two Sanitary Inspector of Medical Office
of Health, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, inspected the shops in Sector-35,
Chandigarh and approximately 12 kg Plastic
Items such as Plastic spoons, Plastic glasses, Plastic plates and polythene
bags items were seized and a total of five challans
had been issued to the violators.
Two challans of Rs 5000/- each and three challans of Rs. 500/- each were issued to the erring shopkeepers. The seized items were later sent to the dumping ground situated in Dadumajra for safe disposal of the same. Smt. Kriti Garg, IAS, SDM, South also appealed to the traders as well as general public to discourage the use of polythene/ plastic bags / plastic plates/ glasses and such allied items to make the city cleaner and garbage free. She also made an appeal to the general public to shift to the safer options like jute/ cloth carry bags which are environment friendly and bio-degradable.
