Chandigarh, 28th March, 2016:- In
compliance with the directions passed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in
Civil Appeal No.2740 of 2007 – State of U.P. & Ors. Vs. All U.P. Consumer
Protection Bar Association vide order dated 14.1.2016, the Committee consisting
of Hon’ble Dr. Justice Arijit Pasayat, Former Judge of Supreme Court of India
as Chairman, Hon’ble Ms. Justice Rekha Sharma, Former Judge, High Court of
Delhi and Sh. P.Venkata Rama Sastry, I.P.S., Joint Secretary, Department of
Consumer Affairs, New Delhi as Members visited Chandigarh and attended a
meeting with Hon’ble Presidents of Chandigarh, Punjab & Haryana State
Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and Secretaries/Joint Secretaries of the
respective States/U.T., in U.T. Guest House today and discussed the matters at
length on all aspects in which reforms can be suggested to strengthen the
Consumer Forum and make them more independent and powerful for speedy disposal
of consumer complaints. In this regard, worthy Secretaries/Joint Secretaries of
the respective States of Punjab, Haryana & U.T. Chandigarh assured the
Committee for providing complete infrastructure whatever is required, in the
interest of consumer right. Report in this regard is to be submitted by the
Committee to the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India for further consideration.
Chandigarh 10 th August 2017: In compliance of the directions of the Government of India to take steps for improvement of ranking in “Ease of Doing Business’ index, the Chandigarh Administration has notified Chandigarh Building Rules (Urban) 2017. The existing building byelaws/orders/notifications issued from time to time have been reviewed bya committee. Since amendments to the building Rules were never compiled before, therefore, comparative analysis of existing building byelaws applicable in Chandigarh was done viz-a-viz Haryana Building Code 2016, TCPO Model Building Byelaws 2016 and NBC 2017. This exercise has simplified the building Rules as each and every rule has been tabulated and individual chapters including Commercial, Residential, Industrial, Institutional, IT Park, High Rise buildings etc. The report had been earlier approved by the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh after seeking views from general public.
