Apni/ Kissan Mandis in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, 5th April, 2016: During the visit of the Deputy Commissioner –cum- Secretary, State Agricultural Marketing Board, U.T.Chandigarh to the mandi Sector 26, Chandigarh, it was noticed that a large number of fruits/vegetable sellers were sitting on the roads for selling their goods.   The General Public and traffic was being obstructed due to the encroachments made by these people inside the mandi.  Worthy Secretary, State Agricultural Marketing Board, U.T. Chandigarh directed that the roads should be kept free from encroachments for farmers/General Public, but at the same time the fruits/vegetable sellers should not lose their lively hood. To achieve both these motives, it was decided that they will be settled in the Apni Mandies. Apni mandies will be held at the existing venues of Punjab Mandi Board but on different days by Market Committee, Chandigarh.

Under the instructions of the Deputy Commissioner-cum-Secretary, State Agricultural Marketing Board, U.T.Chandigarh,  Apni Mandies / Kisan Mandies will be held by  the  Market Committee Chandigarh in various sectors of Chandigarh for the facility of farmers, vendors and General Public.  These mandies will be held on all week days in different Sectors as per the schedule. The schedule of the Apni mandies will be as under:-

 Identity cards will be issued by the Chairman Market Committee to the farmers and vendors free of cost on submission of application and an affidavit by the applicants. The Identity cards will be valid for a period of one year and will be renewed by the Committee in the month of April every year.  Every farmer/vendor will be required to keep this I.D. Card at the time of entry into the mandi otherwise they will not be given the entry. To avoid any unauthorized persons/encroachments, Municipal Corporation and Police will be requested to take action. The I.D. Card holders will not claim any permanent allotment on the basis of the I.D. Card.  

 The parking of vehicles and traffic movements will be controlled by the traffic Police, Chandigarh. Market Committee will also provide private security Personnels to assist the police staff.  

Market Committee will maintain the basic amenities such as drinking water and sanitation at these mandies. Nominal charges of Rs.70/ - and Rs-35/- will be taken from the venders and farmers for participating in these Apni mandies. The rates will be fixed by the Committee on the basis of the wholesale rates in Sector-26, Mandi. Residents of Chandigarh will get fresh fruits and vegetables twice a week, which they get once presently and that too at reasonable rates.

No vendor or farmer will be allowed to use polythene bag or calcium carbide for ripening of fruits. Such ripened fruits will not be allowed to be sold at these mandi. It will also be taken care that there is no overcharging from the consumers. The rates to be charged will be as per the rate list displayed by the Market Committee. Strict action such as cancellation of Identity card will be taken against the defaulters.

Drinking water facility and sanitation work will be looked after by the Committee, which will be got done through private contractors. It will be ensured that the cleanliness work will be done on the next day of Apni mandies by 10.00 a.m. No colored lights will be allowed in the mandies as they reflect fabricated colors of the fruit and vegetables.

 Inauguration of Apni Mandi/ Kisan Mandi will be done on 7-04-2016 by the Worthy Advisor to Administrator U.T. Chandigarh. Deputy Commissioner –cum- Secretary, State Agricultural Marketing Board, U.T.Chandigarh, Joint Commissioner cum joint Secretary, State Agricultural Marketing Board, SDM (E), Chairman, Market Committee and other members of Market Committee will also take part in the inaugural function.


The functioning of the mandies will be supervised by the Market Committee. They will ensure fair and smooth functioning. A three member Committee of Market Committee members have also been constituted to see the overall functioning of the mandies. In the coming time some more Apni mandies will be held in more Sectors  for the convenience of the residents.
