2016: Indian Red Cross Society, U.T. Branch, Chandigarh
celebrated World Health Day on 7th April, 2016 by organizing a
Workshop on Cancer Awareness, Gender Sensitization and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation for staff working in
Govt. as well as private schools, colleges and technical institutions of
Chandigarh in the Auditorium of Post Graduate College for Girls, Sector 11,
Chandigarh between 12 noon to 2 p.m. The Cancer Awareness Program was
especially designed for the females. The workshop was organized in association
with the Department of Radiotherapy, PGIMER, Chandigarh.
Sh. Virender Chaudhary, HCS, Joint
Commissioner, Chandigarh and Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, U.T. Branch,
Chandigarh inaugurated the function. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest
stressed upon that everybody should be conscious about their health. There are so
many life threatening diseases like diabetes, hyper-tension etc. and cancer is
one of them. He further added that on the occasion of World Health Day, we all
should be careful about the health of our family, ourselves and surroundings to
build a healthy and strong nation.
On this occasion, Dr. Sushmita Ghosal,
Head of Department of Radiotherapy, PGIMER, Chandigarh delivered a lecture on
Health for Women and Dr. Firuza Patel, Ex. Professor, Department of
Radiotherapy, PGIMER, Chandigarh delivered the lecture on Palliative Care
Services and Cancer Awareness. A lecture on Gender
Sensitization has also been delivered by Ms. Prabhjot Kaur, State Coordinator,
Department of Social Welfare, Chandigarh followed by demonstration on Cardio
Pulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid techniques by Sh. Sushil Kumar Taank,
Training Supervisor of Red Cross Society.
About 400 teachers
from various educational/technical institutions of Chandigarh participated in
the workshop. The Principal. Dr. (Mrs.) Anita Kaushal, Mrs. Sudha Vashisht and
members of Community Hygiene and Public Health Society of the Post Graduate
College for Girls, Sector 11, Chandigarh extended their full co-operation and
support to make this program a grand success. The members of the Managing Body
and the dedicated staff of the Indian Red Cross Society. U.T. Branch,
Chandigarh including Medical Officers and staff from Chandigarh Hospice headed
by Sh. S.S. Saini, Joint Secretary were also present during the said Workshop.
