Chandigarh,
24th April 2016: The
Chandigarh Administration with huge fervor has celebrated the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar
with a series of events
conducted throughout the
city.
Every day a short film on
the life, contribution and achievements of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar was organized for
the people of various villages of Chandigarh.
In the memory of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar the Government of India has proposed
to undertake a “Gramoday se Bharat Uday Abhiyan” in all the Gram Panchayats and
Gram Sabhas of the country. The objective of the Abhiyan is to encourage Social
hormony, promote farmers’ progress, improve livelihoods of the poor and
strengthen Panchayati Raj system by educating them about the various
initiatives/programmes/schemes undertaken by the Government.
Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi today launched
'Gramoday Se Bharat Uday Campaign' on the occasion of 'Rashtriya Panchayati Raj
Diwas' in Jharkhand. The Prime Minister Sh.
Narendra Modi addressed the Panchayati Raj Sammelan addressing around 3,000
Panchayat Representatives from all states of the country. The Prime Minister
addressed the gathering, which was
beamed live to all the Gram Sabhas all over the country.
The
Chandigarh Administration today organized a Gram shabha in village Daria, for
the live telecasting of the speech of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi.
Sh. Narendra Modi, Expressed his happiness of launching the
Panchayat Raj program - Gramoday Se Bharat Uday - from the soil of Jharkhand.
Addressing the gathering Sh. Narendra Modi said, “Don’t the villages deserve
the same development just as we see in cities? Electricity, roads, water – our villages
should have the best of these facilities as well”. He further said, “People
Serving in the villages should think that they have an opportunity to do
something transformative within their tenure”. Sh. Narendra Modi, motivated the
women of the village to serve in the panchayats and show tremendous leadership
in bringing all round development in the village.
Sh. Narendra Modi gave awards to States that have devolved
maximum powers to Panchayats so far (Cumulative Devolution Index awards), i.e.,
Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Sikkim.
Awards were also given to States that have devolved maximum powers to Panchayats in the last three years (Incremental Devolution Index awards) to Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim and Odisha.
The States that have made greatest progress in aligning their laws to Panchayat Extension to Scheduled Areas Act 1996, which have been given for the first time, to Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. States that have made maximum efforts to e-enable Panchayats, i.e. Karnataka, Kerala, West Bengal and Assam

In addition to this a new ‘Mandate of the Ministry of Panchayati
Raj’ wasreleased along with the ‘Devolution Index Report’ by the Prime Minister
on this occasion.
