National Lok Adalat


Chandigarh, 9th   April, 2016: As per the directions by the Hon’ble Justice Mr. Surya Kant, Punjab and Haryana High Court and Executive Chairman, State Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh, the Labour Department, U.T., Chandigarh organized the National Lok Adalat, chaired by the Assistant Labour Commissioner-cum- Authority under various Labour Acts, today.

The main objective of this National Lok Adalat was to relieve heavy burden on the Courts with pre-litigation/pending cases and to give relief to the litigants who were in a queue to get justice. For the purpose of awareness, the department called upon the meetings with representatives of employees’ and employers’ and their respective associations, trade unions to encourage and motivate workers and management to avail this remedial opportunity for speedy justice and for mutual settlement of disputes related to various labour laws such as ‘The Payment of Wages Act, 1936, The Minimum Wages Act, 1948, The Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972, The Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 and The Employee’s Compensation Act, 1923. Today, a total of 295 cases were disposed of.
