World Health Day (WHD) 2016: Halt the Rise and beat Diabetes

Chandigarh, April 8th, 2016: World Health Day (WHD) is celebrated every year on 7th April. The theme for this year’s WHD is ‘Beat Diabetes- Scale Up Prevention, Strengthen Care and enhance Surveillance’ and main goal of the Campaign is to spread awareness about the rise of Diabetes and its consequences. Prime focus should be on halt the rise and beat Diabetes. 
To celebrate World Health Day, National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, CVDs and Strokes (NPCDCS) , NHM, U.T., Chandigarh organized various events in collaboration with  School of Public Health, Deptt. Of Community Medicine , PGIMER, Chandigarh. Health talks were delivered at Indra colony and Bhaskar Colony and general public were screened for Blood sugar at the camps. Many suspected cases of Diabetes were diagnosed and treatment was done accordingly at Public health dispensaries situated at Sector 25 and Indira colony. Many overweight and obese people were also advised to visit the Diet clinic at Manimajra and GMSH-16 for counselling on diet as overweight and obesity is one of the major risk factors for Diabetes and other lifestyle diseases . Nursing students of GMSH-16 were also sensitised regarding Diabetes, its risk factors, ways of its prevention, treatment and management. Emphasis was also paid on role of diet and exercise in prevention of Lifestyle diseases including Diabetes.  A slogan writing competition on Diabetes was also held for nursing students of GMSH-16  and best Slogans were given the awards.
NPCDCS , NHM , Chandigarh has provided glucometres, glucometres and lancets at all peripheral health facilities including all Subcentres and Civil dispensaries and all health workers are instructed to screen people above 30 yrs. for diabetes. Health talks are also delivered by health care providers at all health facilities from time to time regarding risk factors, signs and symptoms, treatment and further management of lifestyle diseases  .

“Vote for Healthy Democracy” Campaign

Chandigarh, 18th March, 2019: Taking the “Vote for Healthy Democracy” campaign forward to motivate citizens to use their Right to Vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections of Chandigarh, Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh today launched a stamp with the message of "Voting is your Right, Please Cast your Vote". The stamp will be included on all the OPD cards of the patients who visit the hospital.  This initiative is a part of the drive undertaken by Medical Community to motivate more and more people to participate and vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
