Flag off ceremony of Mountaineering Expedition

Chandigarh, 12th May, 2016: In a first of its kind initiative in the country the Department of Social Welfare, Women & Child Development Chandigarh Administration in association with the Indian Mountaineering Foundation will be sending 60 specially abled and 60 women on a Mountaineering Course/ Expedition to 4 peaks ranging 5500m -6000m height in the Indian Himalayas. Hon'ble Prime Minister of India has also launched "Beti Bachao Beti Padhao" Scheme for the empowerment of Women and this initiative of Social Welfare Department in conducting this course for women and persons with disability shall be a morale booster and will also help in creating confidence amongst participant Women & Persons with Disabilities of UT Chandigarh. The selections were held on the 7th and 8th of May 2016 at MCM DAV College 76 specially abled candidates and 135 women participated in the selection process which consisted of physical tests like Running and climbing the rock wall. 60 women and 60 specially abled participants have been selected by a team of experts from Indian Mountaineering Foundation. H.E Governor of Punjab & Haryana and Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh, Prof.  Kaptan Singh Solanki flagged off the expedition today at Haryana Raj Bhawan and appreciated the efforts done by the Social Welfare Department for the empowerment of women & persons with disability. Among others present during the occasion were, Adviser to Administrator, Sh. Parimal Rai, IAS, Sh. Amit Kumar Aggarwal, IAS, Secretary to the Governor, Smt. Bhawana Garg, IAS, Secretary Social Welfare, Women & Child Development, Smt. Nishu Singal, HCS, Director Social Welfare, Women and Child Development and Smt. Keerthi Pias Chairman Youth Development, Indian Mountaineering Foundation, GOI. Smt. Bhawana Garg, IAS, gave vote of thanks and motivated the participants for expedition.

Pulse Polio Campaign

Chandigarh, 4 th   April, 2017:   Activities conducted for three days i.e. from 2nd – 4th April, 2017 during Pulse Polio Campaign ‘Do Boond Zindgi Ki’ to win the war of eradicating Polio from the society and to immunize the children in the age group of 0-5 Years with Oral Polio Drops were successfully completed today. The campaign was held for three days in which Day 1 was dedicated for Booth Round and Day 2 & 3 were planned for door to door visit to immunize all children of Chandigarh in this age group with Oral Polio drops. A total of 1, 00, 236 children were immunized with oral polio drops during pulse polio activity and 929 teams visited 2, 65, 042 Houses and immunized Children with oral polio drops on day 2 and 3. 'X’ houses will be covered in the coming days too to track the unimmunized children and give them polio drops. “Vote for Healthy Democracy” Campaign

Chandigarh, 18th March, 2019: Taking the “Vote for Healthy Democracy” campaign forward to motivate citizens to use their Right to Vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections of Chandigarh, Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh today launched a stamp with the message of "Voting is your Right, Please Cast your Vote". The stamp will be included on all the OPD cards of the patients who visit the hospital.  This initiative is a part of the drive undertaken by Medical Community to motivate more and more people to participate and vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections. As part of this campaign, IMA has designed stickers with the message “Vote for a healthy democracy”, which will be stuck on all the prescriptions of patients.
