Chandigarh,
8th May, 2016: Chandigarh Administration in
association with Indian Mountaineering Foundation is organising a
mountaineering expedition and training for women candidates. The first
expedition will be flagged off by the Governor of Punjab and Haryana and
Administrator, U.T., Chandigarh, H.E. Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki on 13th May
2016, and the course will start from the 14th May at Manali , Himachal Pradesh.
Selection for the candidates was held this morning at MCMDAV College. 135 candidates in total within the age group of 18 years to 52 years participated in the selection process. Smt. Bhawna Garg, IAS, Secretary Social Welfare, Women and Child Development ,Sh. Keerthi Pais, Chairman , Youth Development , IMF, Smt. Nishu Singhal, Director Social Welfare Women and Child Development , U.T, Chandigarh were present during the selections
Speaking to the officials Wg Cdr Sudhir Kutty, Secretary IMF said “ The response has been overwhelming . We had participants from all walks of life- housewives, students, corporates, and sports woman lecturers. I am personally impressed with candidates above 45 years who have showed the courage to participate. We at IMF believe in creating opportunities and appreciate the Chandigarh Administration for cooperating in this unique venture that truly empowers women. 60 women have been selected who will attend the basic course in two batches in May and July 2016 and will also be a part of the expedition.
