Chandigarh, 14th May, 2016: National
Legal Services Authority under the visionary Leadership of Hon’ble Mr. Justice
Anil R. Dave, Judge Supreme Court of India organized National Lok Adalat at all
levels from Sub-Division level Courts to the Hon’ble Supreme Court today. The National Lok Adalat was organized
in the District Court, Chandigarh under the able guidance of Hon’ble Mr.
Justice Sh. Shiavax Jal Vazifdar, the Acting Chief Justice, Punjab and Haryana
High Court and Patron-in-Chief, State
Legal Services Authority, U.T. Chandigarh,
Hon'ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant, Executive Chairman, State Legal Services
Authority, Chandigarh and Hon’ble Mr. Justice M. Jeyapaul, Judge, Punjab and
Haryana High Court, Administrative Judge, Chandigarh Sessions Division.
Twelve
Benches headed by the serving Judicial Officers were constituted in the
District Courts, Sector-43, Chandigarh. The cases relating to
MACT, Insurance Claims and Traffic/STA/Shop Act
Challans were taken up and disposed off with the consent of the parties.
Sh.Mahavir Singh, Member Secretary, State Legal Services Authority,
U.T., Chandigarh and Sh.Amarinder Sharma, Secretary, DLSA, Chandigarh also
visited the benches and pursued the cases for amicable settlement.
In today's National Lok
Adalat total 6606 cases were disposed off. Out of them 10 MACT cases were
settled and a sum of Rs.32,64,770/- was awarded as compensation, Approximately
6526 Traffic Challans were disposed off and a sum of Rs.4,00,850/- was realized as fine, 50 Cases pertaining to STA, Shop Act and Company
Act were disposed and Rs. 92,700/- was imposed and realized as fine, 19 Untrace
Reports were settled and 01 Civil Suit pertaining to the amount of Rs. 30 lac
was also settled between the parties.

Mahavir Singh, Member Secretary, State Legal Services Authority, U.T.,
Chandigarh and Sh. Amarinder Sharma, Secretary, DLSA, Chandigarh thanked the
general public for making today‘s Lok Adalat is sucess. Further appealed to
resolve the disputes through the Lok Adalats as it provides quick and
economical justice. It also saves the valuable time, money and energy of the
litigants. Every award of the Lok Adalat is final and no appeal lies against
the same.
