Chandigarh, 7th May, 2016 Chandigarh Administration in
association with Indian Mountaineering Foundation is organising a
mountaineering expedition and training for specially abled candidates. The
first expedition will be flagged off by the Governor of Punjab and Haryana and
Administrator, U.T., Chandigarh, H.E. Prof.
Kaptan Singh Solanki on 13th May 2016, and the
course will start from the 14th May at
Manali , Himachal Pradesh.
Selections for the candidates were held today at MCMDAV College wherein 76 candidates participated in the selection process. Various tests under different categories like walking, climbing and motivation were conducted to test the calibre of the participants. Specially Abled youth of Chandigarh showcased some outstanding efforts in the selection. Some of the participants challenged themselves by climbing a 40 feet wall of the college campus.
50 hearing impaired, 7 visually impaired, 9 mild mentally retarded, 10 physically challenged candidates participated in the selections .
60 candidates have been selected by a team of experts from Indian Mountaineering Foundation. Sh. Sudhir Kutty , Secretary IMF and Sh. Keerthi Pais, Chairman , Youth Development , IMF were present during the selections,
Smt. Nishu Singhal, Director Department of Social Welfare , Chandigarh addressed the gathering and motivated the participants to take up such challenges more often. Speaking to the officials Mr Keerthi Pais , said that visually impaired Chhonzim Ongmo , Sitaram Yadav , physically challenged Ishan Deol , Avinash Rana , Updesh Kumar were some impressive candidates who are highly motivated and stood out during the day .
