Chandigarh, 10th June,
2016: India has made
considerable progress over the years in the sector of health. Different
initiatives for Safe Motherhood have been found to be effective for
addressing the maternal health issues. In view of this,
Government of India has decided to launch “Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan”(PMSMA), a fixed
day strategy, every month across the country during which a range of quality
maternal health services are envisaged to be provided as part of Antenatal Care.
Under the campaign, a minimum package of antenatal
care services is to be provided to the beneficiaries on the 9th day of every month at the
Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Clinics to ensure that every pregnant woman
receives at least one checkup in the 2nd/ 3rd trimester of pregnancy.
Chandigarh held its first “Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan”(PMSMA), at EWS Dhanas. The beneficiaries were informed about the activity
during the IEC activities in the last 2-3 days. There was a good turnover of
the beneficiaries. The Antenatal checkup was done by Medical Officers of EWS
Dhanas and Mani Majra. The basic investigations of blood and urine were also
carried out. All the pregnant women were counselled about Care during
pregnancy, Nutrition, Importance of institutional deliveries, child Care etc.
101 pregnant women were examined by
doctors, investigations (Blood tests and urine tests) of 85 beneficiaries were
conducted, and 90 were administered Iron and Folic Acid tablets and calcium
tablets. The High Risk Pregnancies were identified and referred for further
specialised care to GMSH 16 and CH 22
The Director Health, Dr. Vinita Gupta
who is committed to improve the Maternal and Child Health has ensured that this
activity was done in full spirit. On the 9th of the subsequent months this
activity will be carried out in all Health institutions in a phased manner.
