Fisheries Department Initiative to Fight Malaria, Dengue in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, 20th July, 2016:          The Fisheries Department of Chandigarh is working jointly with Health Department to control and fight against mosquito borne diseases like malaria, dengue which have become a common name in every household.  Particularly in ongoing rainy season mosquitoes breed very rapidly causing the spread of malaria & dengue.

                      The health department has identified stagnant water points in various locations of the city where the officials of both departments are releasing Gambusia fish, commonly known as anti larve fish as it eats larve of mosquito and prevent its further breeding. So far this anti larve fish has been released in Rock garden, Baghiya Nursery, Divine Nursery, Ram Nursery, Durga Nursery, all in Sector-26 Chandigarh. Other points include Bougain villa Garden, Sector: 10, Laisure Valley, Rose Garden, Sector: 16 and Shant Kunj Sector: 16 Chandigarh. 

                     The Chandigarh Administration does not want to leave any stone unturned and putting all efforts to prevent the spread of any mosquito borne diseases to lower down the number of people affected by these diseases.

                     In the Northern region, Govt. Fish Seed Farm, Chandigarh only breeds the rare fishes and supplies to several agencies, free of cost  for stocking in stagnant water bodies to prevent mosquito breeding.

           The Gambusia fish is being produced at Govt Fish Seed Farm, Sector -6, located at the regulator end of Sukhna lake Chandigarh. The Fisheries department breed this fish in March and then use up to December

Pulse Polio Campaign

Chandigarh, 4 th   April, 2017:   Activities conducted for three days i.e. from 2nd – 4th April, 2017 during Pulse Polio Campaign ‘Do Boond Zindgi Ki’ to win the war of eradicating Polio from the society and to immunize the children in the age group of 0-5 Years with Oral Polio Drops were successfully completed today. The campaign was held for three days in which Day 1 was dedicated for Booth Round and Day 2 & 3 were planned for door to door visit to immunize all children of Chandigarh in this age group with Oral Polio drops. A total of 1, 00, 236 children were immunized with oral polio drops during pulse polio activity and 929 teams visited 2, 65, 042 Houses and immunized Children with oral polio drops on day 2 and 3. “Vote for Healthy Democracy” Campaign

Chandigarh, 18th March, 2019: Taking the “Vote for Healthy Democracy” campaign forward to motivate citizens to use their Right to Vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections of Chandigarh, Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh today launched a stamp with the message of "Voting is your Right, Please Cast your Vote". The stamp will be included on all the OPD cards of the patients who visit the hospital.  This initiative is a part of the drive undertaken by Medical Community to motivate more and more people to participate and vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
