Survey by the Department of Social Welfare, Women and Child Development

Chandigarh, 22nd July, 2016:  The Department of Social Welfare, Women and Child Development got a survey conducted from two NGOs namely Bharat Prakarsh Foundation and Vatsal Chhaya Trust already associated with the department. As per the survey reports of the NGOs the rent problem is the common complaint of the rented Anganwadi centers and people are not willing to rent out the rooms at Rs 750/- per month so the rent should be increased. Some centers are running in verandas, miniscule entrances, small space in gallery, in small rooms with beds and other furnitureitems .Better premises need to be located so the existing anganwadi centers can be shifted to more spacious and better accommodation.
An exercise has been made by the Field Supervisors also and big rooms have been located in their areas. The list of existing anganwadi centers is as under:-
·           Total rented centers =  345
·           Satisfactory accommodation but rent needs                  = 286
to be revised

·           Unsatisfactory and need to be relocated with
increase in rent                                                = 59
·           Already shifted from unsatisfactory accommodation
out of 59                                                          =  3
·           Remaining Anganwadi centers to be shifted                =56

Accordingly the Chandigarh Administration has sent the proposal to the Govt. of India for the enhancement of rent of 345 anganwadi centres (including water and electricity charges) for the smooth functioning of anganwadi centers. The Financial burden on the enhancement of Rent of 345 anganwadi centers is Rs.72.45 lakh per Annum. Concurrence is still awaited.
