Release of Child Protection Compendium and Documentary Film


Chandigarh, 30th August, 2016:  The Union Territory Child Protection Society (UTCPS) under the aegis of Department Of Social Welfare, Chandigarh Administration organized a Programme for Release Of Child Protection Compendium and Documentary Film On Procedures Of Juvenile Justice Act 2015 by Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator U.T, Shri V.P Singh Badnore who presided as chief guest for the program today, at Tagore Theatre, Sector- 18, Chandigarh.

The Program Commenced with the screening of short film “Bhor” on the theme of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao produced by the initiative of Department Of Social Welfare Women and Child Development. This was followed by an orientation on the cause of organ donation by Sh. Sudhir Dhawan, Director, Mohan Foundations. The session was followed by showcasing of documentary film on procedures under Juvenile Justice Act 2015.

Smt. Bhawna Garg, IAS, Secretary Social Welfare Women and Child Development welcomed Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh and thanked him for sparing his valuable time and for presiding over the program. She explained about the initiative under which the Child Protection Compendium has come into place which includes 9 SOP’s on various issues like child labour, Non institutional Care Services, Child Sexual Abuse & physical abuse, Children with disabilities, Children with substance use, Children in conflict with law & Child protection advisory for schools.

Shri. V.P Singh, Badnore addressed the audience and congratulated the Department of Women and Child development for the initiative of creating documentation and expressed his continuing support for all such initiatives. He insisted that Chandigarh should appreciate this as a good practice and also share it with other states for effective implementation of child related laws and legislations. HE also spoke about the need of inculcating correct values in children right from beginning.

The Child protection working group was established to undertake the preparation of SOP’S for children under JJ Act 2015 under the leadership of Secretary and Director Social Welfare Women and Child Development, Chandigarh administration. The group consisted Ms. Sangita Vardhan, Chairperson Vatsal Chaya, Ms Monika Singh Munjal, Sr. Assistant Professor, Centre Of Social Work, PU, Mr Neil Roberts, Chairperson, Chandigarh Child welfare committee further assisted by officials of UTCPS, Children Home Snehalaya & PhD students Ms. Anupama Bharati and Ms Mehak Gandhi from PU. The group has prepared a total of 09 Standard Operating Procedures as part of the Compendium. Further as the need was felt to streamline the child protection procedures in Chandigarh, a documentary film was prepared by UTCPS. This is first such film which has been prepared for the procedures after passing under new JJ Act that has come into place in January 2015.

The workshop was attended by Sh. Sarvjit Singh, IAS, Finance Secretary, Sh. Anurag Agarwal , IAS, Home Secretary, Prof. Devi Sirohi, Chairperson, Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Sh. Sukhchain Singh Gill, IPS, SSP Chandigarh Police, Smt. Nishu Singhal , HCS, Director Social Welfare Women And Child Development, Sh. Rupinderjit Singh Brar,  DPI (Schools) , Dr. Vanita Gupta,  Director Health Services., Mr. Neil Roberts , Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee, Ms. Madanjeet Sahota, Member, Juvenile Justice Board,  around 400 Principles, Members SMCs, & other representatives of Govt Schools, Senior officials of Department Of Social Welfare, Women and Child Development, Department of Police, 400 Anganwadi workers and other eminent representatives.

“Vote for Healthy Democracy” Campaign

Chandigarh, 18th March, 2019: Taking the “Vote for Healthy Democracy” campaign forward to motivate citizens to use their Right to Vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections of Chandigarh, Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh today launched a stamp with the message of "Voting is your Right, Please Cast your Vote". The stamp will be included on all the OPD cards of the patients who visit the hospital.  This initiative is a part of the drive undertaken by Medical Community to motivate more and more people to participate and vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
