Chandigarh,
27th September, 2016: Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, Hon'ble Governor of
Punjab and Administrator U.T, Chandigarh at Govt Museum & Art Gallery
Sec-10, Chandigarh today inaugurated an exhibition of paintings- "I LOVE
THE BEAUTY OF GREY" by Antonio Puri. During the exhibition Sh. V.P. Singh
Badnore also unveiled a Catalogue based on the work, inspiration and life of
the artist.
Antonio
Puri, born, in Chandigarh in1966 and raised in the Himalayas, studied art at
the Academy of Art in San Francisco and Coe College, Iowa and holds a law
degree from the University of Iowa. He has incorporated Corbusier’s plans,
maps, codes in his paintings, which reflect grey and the installations are
ideal of Corbusier’s architecture and vision, to design buildings, interiors
and artworks that are in sync with the surrounding spaces. Grey is an aspect
that Puri explores in this exhibition, as he uses bright colours and hides them
with grey, an aspect of Chandigarh that influenced him, “the effort was to
subtly present grey and make it the strength of my work.
Appreciating the work of the renowned artist, Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore said that “Paintings speak for
themselves. It is a moment of pride that Antonia Puri has created such
beautiful paintings which reflect visuals of the beautiful city that is his
birthplace-Chandigarh.” He further added that belonging to Rajasthan, Art &
Culture has always interested him as the city was the hub of varied schools of
painting, the work of which is sought in different parts of the world.
While
talking about his exhibition- I Love the Beauty of Grey in honour of Le
Corbusier, Antonio Puri said that as a man of two worlds, born in Sector 2,
Chandigarh, raised in the Himalayas and later moving to study art in USA and
living there, duality has played a role in every aspect of his personal and
artistic life. He also mentioned that Corbusier had influenced his work and
impacted it, and this exhibition comes at a time when it is his 50th death
anniversary and Antonio’s 50th birthday.”
The exhibition will
remain on view from 27th September-16th October, 2016
from 10:00 AM to 4:40 PM (closed on Monday & Holidays).
