Health Department in collaboration with Chandigarh Transport Undertaking
organized a free Health cum Screening Camp at Chandigarh Transport Undertaking
Workshop, Industrial Area, Phase - 1, Chandigarh today under the leadership of
Dr. Vanita Gupta, Director Health Services and Sh. Amit Talwar, PCS, Director Transport,
Chandigarh Administration.
This camp was organized specifically for
employees working under CTU. This was the eighth Health organized by the
Chandigarh Health Department. The previous camps were held at Civil Dispensary-
Daddu Majra, Maulijagran, Dhanas, Ramdarbar, Public Health Dispensary- Sector
25, Civil Dispensary-Sector 8 and Village Behlana, Chandigarh.
Dr.
Vanita Gupta and Sh. Amit Talwar assured the provision of optimum preventive,
diagnostic and curative services along with the early detection of NCD risk
factors, timely referral and management of Non communicable diseases in the
camp. Both the officers reiterated about their commitment towards the health of
CTU employees and agreed to organize similar medical camps at Depot No 3 &
4 shortly. Free investigations were undertaken and medicines were provided in
the camp.
Around
460 CTU employees were examined at the camp and approx 290 were examined at
Medical OPD and were given treatment accordingly. 304 employees were examined
by Eye specialist at the venue out of which 7 were diagnosed for Cataract and 1
for diabetic retinopathy. Fresh refraction of 125 employees was done. Employees
already using glasses were rechecked for any change in number. Total 156 employees
were examined by the ENT specialist along with their screening for oral cancer
and 3 were suspected for precancerous lesions. 62 were examined for various skin
diseases by dermatologist and most of the patients were found to be suffering
from fungal infection and eczema.
In
addition Nursing students conducted risk profiling of people > 30yrs. And
out of 347 employees above 30 the age of years, 95 were found to be
hypertensive and 77 were overweight and 237 were found to be obese. Approx. 40 employees
were tested for HIV and VDRL. 36 employees were tested for malaria and 83 for
thyroid. 235 employees screened for Diabetes and 47 were found to be suspected
for the same. Counselling regarding healthy lifestyle, weight management was
given to 287 employees on the spot by dietician.
Drivers
and conductors with pain in back and neck were taught exercises and remedial
measures by the physiotherapists. An informative and educative exhibition on
HIV/ AIDS, Iodine Deficiency Disorders, Leprosy and tuberculosis was organized
to generate awareness amongst the CTU employees.
