Chandigarh, 15th September, 2016: With
the onset of Dengue season, the Malaria Wing of Health Department Chandigarh
Administration has geared up Field activities for Prevention & Control of
Dengue. The major source of breeding has been found to be the coolers and in
house containers. It was also observed during the field analysis that the cases
of Dengue are isolated cases and there is no clustering.
Till now
more than 436 cases of dengue has been diagnosed in the health centres located
in Chandigarh. Out of these 112 confirmed cases are residents of UT-Chandigarh
(till the release of press note) which have been diagnosed as Dengue fever at
various government and private laboratories. Four case of Chickengunya has also
been detected at Chandigarh but no fresh case has been detected. All the above
patients detected with Dengue had reported in OPD and there has been no death
due to Dengue of Chandigarh resident till date. All these cases have been
confirmed after field investigations and on ELISA based method which was
initially considered to be the probable cases tested at various private labs.
To further
strengthen the preventive activities, daily fumigation is being carried out
alongwith strengthening of field activities which includes mass awareness,
checking of breeding sources like coolers, containers, tyres and other sources.
Till date 30 challans, 50 show cause notices and more than 2000 notices have
been issued to the defaulters.

The
residents of Chandigarh are requested to take following precautionary measures
with regard to Malaria and Dengue.
Do’s & Don’ts for prevention
& Control of Malaria & Dengue

Ø Do not allow
water to stagnate in and around your houses.
Ø Remove water
from coolers and other small containers at least once in a week.
Ø Always keep
house top tank properly covered.
Ø Do not throw
discarded containers, tyres, pitchers and pots on the roof top.
Ø Do not wear
clothes that expose arms & legs.
Ø Use mosquito
nets or mosquito repellents while sleeping.
Ø Avoid the use
of Aspirin for Fever and Body Ache during dengue season
