Inauguration of Government Schools

Chandigarh, 14th September, 2016: The inauguration of Govt. Model High School, Sector-48,GMHS-49, GMHS, Pocket No. 1, Manimajra and Govt. Middle  School, MHC, Manimajra,  was done today by H.E. Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, Hon'ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh in the august presence of Smt. Kirron Kher, Member of Parliament, U.T. Chandigarh, Sh. Parimal Rai, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh, Sh. Sarvjit Singh, IAS Finance and Education Secretary, Sh. M.P. Singh, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Governor, Sh. T.S Luthra, IPS, IG Police, Sh. Rubinderjit Singh Brar, PCS, Director School Education, Sh. Kapil Setia, Chief Architect  and other senior officials of the administration.
Speaking on the occasion, H.E. Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, Hon'ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh congratulated the administration for their efforts to expand the quality of education by opening 4 new Govt. Schools simultaneously in the city. He shared that education plays a vital role in shaping a kid's personality and setting role models for society and imbibing moral values. He said, “We may arrange 2 to 3 minutes speech every day in every class for every student to make them a future orator and bring in the confidence”. He further added that such kind of training if given in right direction sets up leadership quality in the student’s right from the beginning". 
Sharing his views The Administrator stressed upon adopting the concept of extended school, where students can complete their home work, eat and play in school and go back to their houses without any long lists of homework. In order to implement it effectively he suggested that retired Generals, Admirals, Governors, Judges, senior civil retired officers who are residing in the city can come to the schools as guest faculty and share their experiences/ stories of the job thereby preparing and motivating the future generation.
Addressing the audience on the occasion, Smt. Kirron Kher, Member of Parliament, U.T. Chandigarh, said “it was the desire of the residents of these areas to have a Model School which has been fulfilled today”. She further appreciated the fast track efforts taken by the Adviser to the Administrator in ensuring that the schools are ready in stipulated time.
GMHS, Sector 48,49, Pocket No.1 and GMMS MHC Chandigarh has been set up to cater approximately  4000 students having around 95 class rooms in all the four schools. Approximately 32.5 Crore has been spent on these schools. These schools will be equipped with computer labs as well. The building has drinking water facility and separate toilet for girls on each floor.  The building is differently abled students friendly having access to each floor by ramp and special toilets for such students on each floor.  If more students join, the department may have to run the school in double shift as all the schools in the surrounding areas are already doing the same.
