Chandigarh, 23rd September, 2016: Discussion was held on 23.9.2016 by Director Health & Family
Welfare, U.T. Chandigarh with the Civil Surgeon, Mohali and Civil Surgeon,
Panchkula regarding cross border issues of Dengue & Chikungunya.
It
was decided that the line list of all confirmed positive cases of Dengue &
Chikungunya which are from the U.T. and the two Districts will be shared amongst the
three. Accordingly, intensive survey and vigilance drives will be
made by the field staff of the respective Districts around the residence of the patient in order to
control the spread of infection by curbing the breeding of mosquitoes especially
in those areas.
It
was also decided that the Home
to Home drives to check
water stagnation/collection and to stop breeding will be intensified in
the Border areas.
Today
18 cases of dengue has been reported from various health institutions which
includes14 new cases and 4 confirmed amongst probable cases(till the release of
press note)which brings the total number of Dengue cases to 222 in the
city.Eleven new cases of Chickungunya have been reported by GMCH 32 and
PGIMER.On field investigations it was observed that out of these four were
reported as wrong address. The details of 20 cases of chickungunya detected in
Chandigarh is; 6 imported, 5 wrong address and 9 from Chandigarh
To
curb the spread of infection and breeding of mosquito, the department has
started anti dengue drive from 4th of August 2016 under which total houses checked 329609, coolers checked
147026, tyres checked 26775, containers checked 368862, overhead tanks
26206017, water bodies 6835, under construction building 1722 and notices
issued 2640, challans 30 and show cause notices 50.
To further strengthen the preventive
activities, daily fumigation is being carried out alongwith strengthening of
field activities which includes mass awareness, checking of breeding sources
like coolers, containers, tyres and other sources. Today under dengue drive

The
residents of Chandigarh are requested to take following precautionary measures
with regard to Malaria and Dengue.
Do’s &
Don’ts for prevention & Control of Malaria & Dengue

Ø Do
not allow water to stagnate in and around your houses.
Ø Remove
water from coolers and other small containers at least once in a week.
Ø Always
keep house top tank properly covered.
Ø Do
not throw discarded containers, tyres, pitchers and pots on the roof top.
Ø Do
not wear clothes that expose arms & legs.
Ø Use
mosquito nets or mosquito repellents while sleeping.
Ø Avoid
the use of Aspirin for Fever and Body Ache during dengue season
Ø You
may use natural herbal mosquito repellants like citronella oil, eucalyptus
oil, neem oil or lemon grass extract.
