World Tourism Day Celebrations in U.T, Chandigarh

Chandigarh, 27th September, 2016: The World Tourism Day 2016 was celebrated today in U.T, Chandigarh with utmost splendour and glory. The purpose of celebrating World Tourism Day is to raise public awareness on the role of tourism and to demonstrate how tourism helps spread social, cultural, political and economic values worldwide and lead to more tolerance and appreciation of each other's cultures, religions and habits.
Each year, a theme is selected for the event and celebrations are centered around that theme. The theme for this year is 'Tourism for All – promoting universal accessibility'. In an aim to promote the theme for this year, the Department of Tourism, U.T. Chandigarh had planned a series of special events throughout the day.
The day began with a “Run for Tourism 4 all” organized at the Sukhna Lake, which was flagged off by Sh. Parimal Rai, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, UT Chandigarh in which over 900 students participated. Another highlight of the day was a pleasant surprise for the tourists of the 1st Shatabadi at the Railway Station, which arrived at 11:00 AM when they were welcomed with rose buds by the students of Dr. Ambedkar Institute of hotel management, catering and nutrition, Chandigarh. A similar surprise was also accomplished by welcoming the tourists and visitors at the Chandigarh International Airport arriving from the 1st flight coming from Delhi at 1:00 PM by students of Chandigarh Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology.  

The celebrations continued with an exhibition of paintings- "I LOVE THE BEAUTY OF GREY" by Antonio Puri. The inauguration of the exhibition was done by Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, Hon'ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator U.T, Chandigarh at Govt Museum & Art Gallery Sec-10, Chandigarh.  Antonio Puri is a Chandigarh based artist who has used bright colors in the displayed paintings with a tinge of Grey. The exhibition will remain on view from 27th September, 2016-16th October, 2016 from 10:00 AM to 4:40 PM (closed on Monday & Holidays).
Various competitions like Rangoli Making, Poster Making on the theme of Go Green & Chandigarh: A Smart City Destination, Hindi and English Essay writing competition on the theme: Tourism 4 All – promoting universal accessibility, Fresh & Dry Flower Arrangement Competition, Photography Competition on nature & its beauty and Cake demonstration were also organized by the Dr. Ambedkar Institute of hotel management, catering and nutrition, Chandigarh and Chandigarh Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology

In an effort to make sure that the World Tourism Day-2016 turns out to be a day to remember for tourists and residents of the city alike, the Department of Tourism provided Free ride of Hop on Hop off bus”” throughout the day. The day ended with a Punjabi Musical Night at Plaza, Sector – 17, wherein performances by renowned Punjabi Singer Amy Virk, Ali Brothers & Jenny Johal on popular Punjabi tracks enthralled the audience.

Pulse Polio Campaign

Chandigarh, 4 th   April, 2017:   Activities conducted for three days i.e. from 2nd – 4th April, 2017 during Pulse Polio Campaign ‘Do Boond Zindgi Ki’ to win the war of eradicating Polio from the society and to immunize the children in the age group of 0-5 Years with Oral Polio Drops were successfully completed today. The campaign was held for three days in which Day 1 was dedicated for Booth Round and Day 2 & 3 were planned for door to door visit to immunize all children of Chandigarh in this age group with Oral Polio drops. A total of 1, 00, 236 children were immunized with oral polio drops during pulse polio activity and 929 teams visited 2, 65, 042 Houses and immunized Children with oral polio drops on day 2 and 3. 'X’ houses will be covered in the coming days too to track the unimmunized children and give them polio drops. “Vote for Healthy Democracy” Campaign

Chandigarh, 18th March, 2019: Taking the “Vote for Healthy Democracy” campaign forward to motivate citizens to use their Right to Vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections of Chandigarh, Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh today launched a stamp with the message of "Voting is your Right, Please Cast your Vote". The stamp will be included on all the OPD cards of the patients who visit the hospital.  This initiative is a part of the drive undertaken by Medical Community to motivate more and more people to participate and vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections. As part of this campaign, IMA has designed stickers with the message “Vote for a healthy democracy”, which will be stuck on all the prescriptions of patients.
