Chandigarh, 17th October, 2016: The Chandigarh, State Agricultural Marketing Board, in association with
“Kheti Virasat Mission” organized a seminar on “Organic Farming” for observing
World Food Day at NITTTR Auditorium, Sector-26, today. The seminar was presided
by Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab & Administrator, U.T.
Chandigarh and Smt. Kirron Kher, Hon'ble Member of Parliament, U.T. Chandigarh
graced the occasion with her presence as guest of Honor. The seminar witnessed
the august presence of Sh. M.P Singh, IAS, Principal Secretary to Governor, Sh.
Parimal Rai, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh, Sh. K. Narasimha,
IAS, Secretary, Agriculture, Sh. Ajit Balaji Joshi, IAS, Deputy
Commissioner-cum-Secretary, State Agricultural Marketing Board, U.T. Chandigarh,
Sh. Virender Chaudhary, H.C.S. Joint Secretary, State Agricultural Marketing
Board, U.T. Chandigarh, Sh. Ramvir Bhatti, Chairman, Market Committee,
Chandigarh, Sh. Umendra Dutt, Executive Director, Kheti Virasat Mission and
other senior officials of the Chandigarh Administration.
Addressing
the gathering Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh,
said, “We may start with setting up of organic mandi here, as making Chandigarh
organic would make it smart in real sense”.
He further added, “Let’s make a roadmap to move forward on this path in a more systematic way and giving life to this concept. We can start on this by setting up the organic counters in the markets”.

Kirron Kher, Hon'ble Member of Parliament, U.T. Chandigarh gracing the occasion
with her presence said, “It gives me great pleasure to see the turnout on
this event today. It is extremely important to take steps in the area of
organic farming. We must preserve and protect our nature. Just like Chandigarh
has become the first solar city, lets now try and become an organic city as
well. Let’s work together for the betterment of this city”.
The
seminar was attended by the expert from across the country in the field and
large number of farmers as well took part in the seminar. The objective of the
seminar was to promote eco-friendly concept of cultivation by reducing the
dependency on chemicals and fertilizers for the benefit of farmers.
