Celebrations of 92nd Birthday Anniversary of Padma Shri Late Nek Chand

Chandigarh, 15th December, 2016: The inauguration of the celebrations of the 92nd Birthday Anniversary of Padma Shri Late Nek Chand- Creator and Director of Rock Garden, Chandigarh was done today by Sh. Parimal Rai, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, U.T at Rock Garden Chandigarh. Among others present during the inauguration ceremony were Sh. Anurag Agarwal, IAS, Home Secretary-cum-Chairman, Society for Maintenance & Development of Rock Garden, Chandigarh, Sh. Mukesh Anand, Chief Engineer, UT, Chandigarh, Smt. Kamla Saini, wife of Padma Shri Late Nek Chand, Sh. Anuj Saini, son of Padma Shri Late Nek Chand and other members of the family. Jointly organized by the Rock Garden Society in association with Tourism Department, UT, Chandigarh the two-day celebrations began today with the garland offering and candle lighting ceremony at the Nek Chand Sculpture in Phase-1of Rock Garden. Another highlight of the celebrations was a Qawali performance in Phase-2 near the water falls.

To encourage children to be creative, various competitions have been organized during the two-day celebrations. A kids craft workshop from mud & waste ceramics and broken bangles was organized at the Phase-3, which was followed by a painting and kids competition “BEST FROM WASTE”. The celebrations on day one ended with a Musical Chair & Children Sack Race.
