Induction cum Refresher Training

Chandigarh, 15th December, 2016: Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society had organized two days Induction cum Refresher Training for peripheral staff working under AIDS Control program. All staff working in the service centres in the entire city were trained on the ways to identify Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) and give proper and timely treatment. Private practitioners regularly in contact with High Risk Groups also attended the training. It is important to detect all Sexually Transmitted Infections as they are completely curable and anyone with this condition has ten times more chance of getting HIV.
            The Induction cum Refresher training was inaugurated by Dr. Rakesh Kashyap, Director Health Services, U.T., Chandigarh along with Dr. Aman Kumar Singh, National Program Officer, STI, NACO and Dr. Vanita Gupta, Project Director, CSACS.
Dr. Aman Kumar Singh, National Program Officer, STI, NACO discussed the National Strategies for management of Sexually Transmitted Infections and Reproductive Tract Infections (STI/RTI) and importance of safe sex practices in the STI Control and Prevention program. The participants were also introduced to different strategies for STI & HIV control and all recent advancements in STI and HIV along with different diagnostic tests for STI.
The prevalence of STI amongst the general population is 5 -6 % which counts to 32-35 million episodes of STI/RTI annually. In Chandigarh, 7500 cases per year are treated. Similarly Govt. has also launched elimination of congenital syphilis to eliminate transmission of syphilis & HIV infection from pregnant women to new born. The prevalence in Chandigarh among pregnant women, of syphilis, is about 0.07% and HIV is about 0.1%.

Dr. Venkatesan Chakrapani, STI specialist, PGIMER talked about the sexual practices of MSM and Transgenders. Dr. Vanita Gupta, Project Director, CSACS talked about the syphilis screening in ANC and STI attendees and ways to eliminate transmission of HIV from infected mother to Child.

Pulse Polio Campaign

Chandigarh, 4 th   April, 2017:   Activities conducted for three days i.e. from 2nd – 4th April, 2017 during Pulse Polio Campaign ‘Do Boond Zindgi Ki’ to win the war of eradicating Polio from the society and to immunize the children in the age group of 0-5 Years with Oral Polio Drops were successfully completed today. The campaign was held for three days in which Day 1 was dedicated for Booth Round and Day 2 & 3 were planned for door to door visit to immunize all children of Chandigarh in this age group with Oral Polio drops. A total of 1, 00, 236 children were immunized with oral polio drops during pulse polio activity and 929 teams visited 2, 65, 042 Houses and immunized Children with oral polio drops on day 2 and 3. “Vote for Healthy Democracy” Campaign

Chandigarh, 18th March, 2019: Taking the “Vote for Healthy Democracy” campaign forward to motivate citizens to use their Right to Vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections of Chandigarh, Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh today launched a stamp with the message of "Voting is your Right, Please Cast your Vote". The stamp will be included on all the OPD cards of the patients who visit the hospital.  This initiative is a part of the drive undertaken by Medical Community to motivate more and more people to participate and vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
