Yet another Feather added to Chandigarh’s Achievements – City Becomes First 100% Adhaar Saturated

Chandigarh, 22nd December, 2016.  A function was held today in PEC University of Engineering Auditorium to mark the celebrations of Chandigarh attaining universal Aadhaar saturation as per the estimated population figure of 2015. Chandigarh is fifth in the country to achieve this feat after Delhi, Telangana, Haryana &Punjab. As against the estimated population (year 2015) of 11,15,584 as of now 11,21,085 residents of Chandigarh have acquired Aadhaar.The population of Chandigarh as per census 2011 is 10,54,686.

Chandigarh is the first UT to launch Aadhaar Linked Birth Registration (ALBR) Programme. Under this programme Aadhaar is being linked with birth certificate of new born babies. For its successful implementation in UT Chandigarh, Health Department has procured tablets in Chandigarh. The tablets have been deployed in all the Government hospitals. Private hospitalshave also been linked 

The Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT, Sh. V P Singh Badnore lauded the role and efforts put in by the Administration and UIDAI RO Chandigarh for this achievement. Hecongratulated the residents of Chandigarh and saidthat success has been possible due to their cooperation. He urged the school children to create a task force for educating people towards cashless transactions. He explained that any technology penetration is difficult to adopt to begin but in a long run leads to lot of convenience for the people.

Smt. Kirron Kher, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, U.T. Chandigarh congratulated the citizens, Administration and UIDAI officials for this achievement. While addressing, she pointed out that Government procedures should be simplified so that citizens are not hesitant to approach the authority for various services. She further mentioned that due to tireless efforts of Hon’ble Prime Minister things are beginning to change for the better. She stressed the need to involve more and more school children to participate in such programs because the lessons learnt in childhood during schools are the best lessons of life.

ShRam Subhag Singh, Deputy Director General, Unique Identification Authority of India(UIDAI) Regional Office,Chandigarh expressed his gratitude towards the Governor for his constant   guidance in ensuring Aadhaar saturation is achieved in Chandigarh. Sh. Singh further added that Smt.  Kirron Kher, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, has always been keen to ensure universal Aadhaar saturation in Chandigarh.

He also thanked the Administration and especially Sh. Parimal Rai, the Adviser to the Administrator for linking Aadhaar with various schemes to ensure effective and smooth delivery of payments to the intended beneficiaries and ensuring transparency. UIDAI will now focus on expediting Aadhaar enrolment in the age group of 0-5 years and 5- 18 years.

Aadhaar has been already linked with various Central schemes like Mahatama Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA), National Social Assistance Program (Old Age Pension, Widow Pension, Disabled Pension), Public Distribution System, Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG, Prime Minister's Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) and Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO). In addition, UT Chandigarh has linked Aadhaar with Slum Rehabilitation Scheme, Scholarships. Aadhaar enabled Biometric Attendance System, Disbursement of Honorarium to Aanganwadi Workers/Helpers and grants under Indira Gandhi Matritava Sahyog Yojana (IGMSY).

UIDAI Regional Office, Chandigarh had conducted an essay competition in the schools of Chandigarh in the month of October 2016.The topic of essay competition was “Aadhaar Ek Labh Anek”. More than 700 students from 65 schools of UT Chandigarh participated in the competition. Best entry from each participating school was considered for consolation prize. Finally four winners were finalized out of these total participants of 65 schools.A panel of faculty members from Panjab University selected the winners. The first prize was won by Bhupesh Verma of Govt. Model High School, Khudda Jassu, second prize by Deepika from School Govt. Model High School, Sector 38W and third prize by Tania Nagrath from Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 18-C and Nisha from Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 15. The winners were awarded with prizes of Rs 10000, 7000, 5000 and commendation certificate.

“Vote for Healthy Democracy” Campaign

Chandigarh, 18th March, 2019: Taking the “Vote for Healthy Democracy” campaign forward to motivate citizens to use their Right to Vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections of Chandigarh, Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh today launched a stamp with the message of "Voting is your Right, Please Cast your Vote". The stamp will be included on all the OPD cards of the patients who visit the hospital.  This initiative is a part of the drive undertaken by Medical Community to motivate more and more people to participate and vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections. As part of this campaign, IMA has designed stickers with the message “Vote for a healthy democracy”, which will be stuck on all the prescriptions of patients.
