Chandigarh, 1st April
2017: As per the guidelines
of Govt. of India, State/UTs were requested to initiate dialogue with
Jail Department to explore the feasibility/possibility for
preparation and distribution of nutrition food for distribution in the
Anganwadi Centers for the beneficiaries of ICDS.
The matter was taken up with the Inspector General of Prisons, Model Jail, Chandigarh. Now the food cooked by the inmates of Burail Jail is being distributed to 100 Anganwadi centers to start with. The department plans to hand over all the remaining 400 Anganwadi centers also to the Jail authorities for supply of Supplementary Nutrition Programme. The Department of Social Welfare organized the function on 1.4.2017 at 11.00 a.m at Ram Darbar Building, Anganwadi Centre No 8,11,15 & 16 Near Creche where the food was supplied by the Jail Authorities.
Focused efforts have
been made by the Social Welfare & Prison Departments of the Chandigarh
Administration to implement the guidelines of Govt. of India in
letter & spirit. The program was organized by the Social Welfare
Department. Sh. S.K. Jain, Additional Inspector General, Jail & Ms. Nishu
Singal, Director Social Welfare, Ms. Neena Chopra, Deputy
Director, Ms. Jaswinder Kaur, Programme Officer, Ms. Sanyogita
Nayyer, CDPO, all Supervisors, & Anganwadi Workers
& Anganwadi Helpers were present to celebrate the occasion. Everyone
present appreciated the taste and quality of food.
