Inauguration of Residential Complex for Officers of Income Tax Department

Chandigarh, April 17, 2017: A residential complex for the senior officers of the Income-tax Department comprising of Type-VI houses in Sector-39B, Chandigarh was inaugurated by the Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore in the presence of Sh. K.C. Jain, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, North-West Region.  Ms. Madhu Mahajan, Director General of Income-tax (Investigation),         Ms. Sunita Puri, Chief Commissioner of Income-tax, Haryana and Sh. Parimal Rai, IAS, Advisor to the U.T. Administrator and other officers of the Income-tax Department were also present on the occasion.

There was a shortage of suitable accommodation for the senior officers of the Income-tax Department.  The U.T. Administration offered the land to the Income-tax Department in Sector-39B, Chandigarh where 6 one kanal houses have been constructed in record time by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).

Shri V.P. Singh Badnore was apprised regarding the shortage of residential flats/houses for the officers/officials of the Income-tax Department at lower and middle levels and he assured that all the proposals of the Income-tax Department to purchase flats/plots would be processed expeditiously by the U.T. Administration.

The Income-tax Department has recently been in the forefront while dealing with the cases of tax evasion and black money and has met the budget collection target of Rs. 8, 47,098 cr for the F.Y. 16-17 showing a growth of 13.8% over the budget collection figure for the F.Y. 2015-16. The performance of the North-West Region comprising of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, J&K and UT of Chandigarh has been outstanding in this regard as the region not only achieved the budget collection target of Rs. 34,511 cr but also surpassed it by achieving actual budget collection of Rs. 35,011 cr and a growth rate of 17.84% over the   collection for the F.Y. 2015-16. 

The Income-tax Department is also investigating the cases of massive cash deposits in the bank accounts of shell companies and various individuals.  The Department is also coordinating with the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation for pursuing   cases of money laundering and various frauds committed during the demonetized period.  The budget target for F.Y. 2017-18 for the Income-tax Department has been fixed at Rs. 9, 80,000 cr.
