Section 144 of Cr.P.C

Chandigarh, 2nd May 2017: It has come to the notice of the District Magistrate that most of the private coaching centres in the city of Chandigarh remain opened from 08.00 A.M. to 03.00 P.M. These coaching centres are involved in the business of giving tuitions to the school children and their tuition timings clashes with the school time of children, which act as a deterrent to children for attending their school. Also, the U.T. Cadre Education Employees Union, Chandigarh had once stated that they are spoiling the future of the children and even prevent the children to go to school. It has also come to the notice that the teachers of several Government schools and private schools are hands in glove.

Therefore, in view of above, Sh. Ajit Balaji Joshi, I.A.S., District Magistrate, Chandigarh, by exercising the power vested under section 144 of Cr.P.C., hereby order that all the private coaching centres within the jurisdiction of Chandigarh shall not render coaching to school going children from 08:00 A.M. to 03.00 P.M. in public interest for a period of 60 days. Those students who have already appeared in final exams or passed out from schools are exempted.

This order shall come into force from zero hours on 01.07.2017 and shall be effective for a period of sixty days up to and including 29.08.2017.
