Chandigarh, 30th June 2017: First of its own kind the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (A Govt. Infirmary), Chandigarh has taken initiative to start 24x7 services for sick and injured stray animals in Chandigarh.
Due to increasing numbers of sick and injured stray animals in U.T., Chandigarh and taking into consideration demand of Animal Lover and Animal Welfare Organization, it has been decided by Shri. Ajit Balaji Joshi, Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh-cum-President SPCA to extend the working hours of Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (A Govt. Infirmary), Chandigarh to 24 hours in Chandigarh w.e.f. 1st July, 2017.
Capt. Karnail Singh, Director Animal Husbandry & Fisheries, Chandigarh Administration-cum-Vice President apprised that Chandigarh is working towards being a Smart City and SPCA has taken initiative to provide 24 hours animal health care in U.T., Chandigarh he also intimated that the recruitment of additional staff has been made for the treatment of speechless animals.
Dr. Kanwarjit Singh, General Secretary, SPCA revealed that at present SPCA is catering 205 sick/ injured stray animals in their Hospital and during last year 3180 animals were treated and rehabilitated. The services for lifting the sick/injured stray animals are available from 06.00 A.M. to 12.00 P.M. for U.T., Chandigarh.
