Chandigarh, 7th July,
2017: To observe Van Mahotsav-2017 in a befitting manner by involving
various Greening agencies like NGOs, Resident Welfare Associations, Eco-Clubs
besides Government agencies, Department of Forests & Wildlife, Chandigarh
Administration organized ‘Eco Club Day’ today, during which
various schools planted saplings within their school premises. The ceremonial
function organized by department in collaboration with Environmental NGO –
Yuvsatta, was held at Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School,
Sector 10, UT Chandigarh in which Sh. Anurag Agarwal, IAS, Home
Secretary-cum-Secretary (Forests & Sci. & Tech. & RE), UT
Chandigarh was the Chief Guest.
On
this occasion, Chief Guest planted the sapling of ‘Jacaranda’ at school
premises. Other Officers and Principal of the Chandigarh Administration and the
School also planted saplings in the school premises.
After
planting the sapling, Chief Guest inaugurated 70 kWp Grid tied Rooftop Solar
Photovoltaic Power Plant at Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 10, UT
Chandigarh.
He
urged the students that each one of you to plant at least one tree every year
in the monsoon season so that our planet Earth is kept Green.
Sh.
Santosh Kumar, IFS, CCF & Director (Science & Technology), UT,
Chandigarh informed that 70 kWp Rooftop SPV Power Plant has been installed by
CREST (Chandigarh Renewal Energy, Science & Technology Promotion Society) .
The total cost of the Project is Rs.63.42 Lac which include operation &
maintenance charge for 10 years. M/s Jakson Engineers Limited, Noida, is the
contracting firm who has installed this Solar Power Plant. The Plant shall be
able to generate 84,000 kWh (units) per year.
During
the function, Sh. Santosh Kumar, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests &
Director (Sci. & Tech. & RE), Sh. Birendra Choudhary, IFS, Deputy
Conservator of Forests (HQ), Mrs. Rajinder Kaur, Distt Education Officer UT,
Mrs. Krishna Choudhary, S.M.O. Civil Dispensary Sec.45 and Eco Club Incharges
of various Schools, Principal of the school and other Senior Officers of the
Administration were present. It was attended by more than 100 school students
and NSS Cadets and representatives from NGOs and Resident Welfare Associations.
The
overall objective of celebrating the ‘Eco Club Day’ is to sensitize the masses
especially school children to generate awareness for protection and
conservation of flora & fauna and to increase the green cover of the
Chandigarh. On this occasion, Sh. Santosh Kumar, IFS exhorted the
students to take active part in plantation in open areas and should make
Chandigarh city more clean & green.
In
another event, the ‘NGO Day’ was celebrated in collaboration with NGO – Youth
Innovative Society, which was held at Govt.
Model High School, Sec. 29, UT Chandigarh wherein Chief Guest- Sh.Santosh
Kumar, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests & Director (Environment) , UT
Chandigarh planted a sapling in the school premises and has given the
message to the students to plant more & more trees during vanmahotsava
week.
