Flag off ceremony of the Mobile Food Testing Laboratory

Chandigarh 30th November 2017: The Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore today flagged off the Mobile Food Testing Laboratory,  first in the country for generating awareness among general public about food safety and various types of common adulteration in food articles.

The Department of Food Safety & Standards, Chandigarh Administration organized various camps in association with Resident Welfare Associations, Public Health Department PGI for general public and demonstrated on the spot food testing with Mobile Food Testing Laboratory and the initiative was appreciated by the residents of Chandigarh. The Laboratory is installed with EMAT digital Milk Analyser, which can test any kind of milk within 37 seconds and give results. Also the Laboratory is equipped with various types of chemicals with the help of which various food articles like Khoa, paneer, desi ghee, edible mustard oil, jiggery, sella rice, pulses, besan, turmeric, hingh and many more can be tested for adulteration check. The Laboratory has conducted around 1300 tests during this period.

Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, the Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, appreciated the efforts of the department for coming up with a noble initiative.

Sh. Pawan Agarwal, CEO, FSSAI, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India visited Chandigarh last year and inspected the said Mobile Food Testing Lab. After getting inspired from the Chandigarh Administration initiative of launch of Mobile Food Testing Laboratory one of its kind in the Country, FSSAI gave Rs. 60 lakh across the Country for mobilization of Mobile Food Testing Laboratories and MFTL to States/U.T.s.  One Laboratory is given to Chandigarh Administration also under this scheme. The Laboratory is equipped with latest Digital Milk Testing Analyser, Water testing Analyser that can check pH, conductivity and TDS in water, Refractometer for testing of sucrose in fruit juices, energy drinks, soups, soya milk etc.

“Vote for Healthy Democracy” Campaign

Chandigarh, 18th March, 2019: Taking the “Vote for Healthy Democracy” campaign forward to motivate citizens to use their Right to Vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections of Chandigarh, Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh today launched a stamp with the message of "Voting is your Right, Please Cast your Vote". The stamp will be included on all the OPD cards of the patients who visit the hospital.  This initiative is a part of the drive undertaken by Medical Community to motivate more and more people to participate and vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
