Hon’ble President of India visits Chandigarh to attend the 50th year celebrations of MCM DAV College for Women


Chandigarh 27th February, 2018: Sh. Ram Nath Kovind, Hon’ble President of India, today graced MCM DAV College for Women, a premier multi-faculty postgraduate institution, on its 50th year of establishment in an equally splendid Golden Jubilee Celebrations. Other distinguished dignitaries included Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, Hon'ble Governor, Punjab and Administrator, U.T., Chandigarh, Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki, Hon'ble Governor, Haryana, Acharya Dev Vrat, Hon'ble Governor, Himachal Pradesh and Smt. Kirron Kher, Hon'ble Member of Parliament who attended the celebrations as Guests of Honour. Making the celebrations memorable and meaningful, Dr. Punam Suri, President, DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi presided over the function. 

The celebrations began with the ceremonial lamp lighting and Saraswati Vandana by the students of the college. This was led by the unveiling of the Foundation Stone of Golden Jubilee Block-the new building of the college by Sh. Ram Nath Kovind and release of the Golden Jubilee Souvenir by Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore.  It was a euphoric moment for the college's International achievers in sports as they were felicitated by the Hon'ble President of India. The achievers awarded included Taniya Bhatia (member of Indian Women's Cricket team for ODI series against South Africa in February 2018), National Meet Record holder Chahat Arora (Bronze Medalist, 9th Asian Age Group Swimming Competition, Uzbekistan), Nitasha (Gold Medal, South Asian Roll Ball Championship, Nepal), Guinness Book Record holder Yamini Gupta (Silver Medalist, Indian International Taekwondo Championship, New Delhi) and Palak Kaur Bijral (participant in World Cup Rhythmic Gymnastics, Uzbekistan).

In recognition of the achievements of NCC Cadets of the college at National level, Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki honoured the 2 Best Cadets- Priya Paudiyal and Aliya. Celebrating the excellence nurtured at MCM, the illustrious alumni of the college were felicitated by Acharya Dev Vrat. The alumni honoured included Palka Sahni, IAS, Sonia Narang, IPS, Dilasha Vasudeva, IES, Capt. Ruchi Sharma (Retd.), Indian Army and Late Flight Lt. Harita Deol. On this occasion, Dr. B.S. Aulakh of DMCH, Ludhiana administered the Organ Donation Pledge to the dignitaries, staff and students present.

Expressing gratitude to the esteemed luminaries for gracing the function, Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava said that completion of 50 glorious years is a matter of sheer exhilaration and rightful pride for everyone associated with this prestigious institution that is a tribute to the great visionary Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan. She further reiterated that MCM continues to explore new vistas in its pursuit of excellence and contributing to the society by producing women of substance in various fields.

DAV alumnus, Sh. Ram Nath Kovind, Hon’ble President of India, congratulated the college on completion of its 50 years and expressed appreciation for the unprecedented role of the college in empowering young women leaders of the future in whom imbibes a sense of responsibility of taking the nation forward. Hailing the role of Swami Dayanand Saraswati in the field of education and social reform, and the spirit of patriotism of Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan, Hon'ble President complimented MCM for having carved a niche for itself.

Referring to the day's function as a befitting tribute to the memory of the stalwart Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan, Dr.Punam Suri reminded the students of their responsibility in dispelling the darkness of ignorance and spreading positivity wherever they go.

Pulse Polio Campaign

Chandigarh, 4 th   April, 2017:   Activities conducted for three days i.e. from 2nd – 4th April, 2017 during Pulse Polio Campaign ‘Do Boond Zindgi Ki’ to win the war of eradicating Polio from the society and to immunize the children in the age group of 0-5 Years with Oral Polio Drops were successfully completed today. The campaign was held for three days in which Day 1 was dedicated for Booth Round and Day 2 & 3 were planned for door to door visit to immunize all children of Chandigarh in this age group with Oral Polio drops. A total of 1, 00, 236 children were immunized with oral polio drops during pulse polio activity and 929 teams visited 2, 65, 042 Houses and immunized Children with oral polio drops on day 2 and 3. 'X’ houses will be covered in the coming days too to track the unimmunized children and give them polio drops. “Vote for Healthy Democracy” Campaign

Chandigarh, 18th March, 2019: Taking the “Vote for Healthy Democracy” campaign forward to motivate citizens to use their Right to Vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections of Chandigarh, Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh today launched a stamp with the message of "Voting is your Right, Please Cast your Vote". The stamp will be included on all the OPD cards of the patients who visit the hospital.  This initiative is a part of the drive undertaken by Medical Community to motivate more and more people to participate and vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
