Chandigarh,
26th April, 2018: As per the guidelines
of WHO and Directorate of National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, New
Delhi. The Malaria Wing of Health Department, UT-Chandigarh organized the World
Malaria Day-2018. The theme for the year is “Ready to beat Malaria”.
As per directions and under able guidance and leadership of
worthy Director Health & Family Welfare Dr. G. Dewan the following
activities were carried out:
1.
Pledge
for prevention and control of Malaria:
A pledge was administered to the Staff of NVBDCP & IDSP under the supervision
of Assistant Director Malaria for prevention & Control of Malaria at
Headquarter, Sector-9, Chandigarh. Same pledge was undertaken at various Public
Health institutions where SMO’s/ MO’s, Paramedical staff and patients were
involved. During the prayer meeting students and teachers of all educational
institutions took oath.
Malaria Staff of all units, Staff of
National Health Mission, staff of O/o District Welfare Family Office, Staff of
RNTCP took pledge to work towards malaria elimination. Anganwadi workers also
took oath in the conference hall of GMSH, Sector-16, Chandigarh.
2.
Organizing
awareness Rallies: Various awareness rallies at 25 malaria field units were
organized by the malaria workers where they visited houses for creating
awareness and distribution of IEC material.
3.
Involvement
of Para Military Forces: An awareness camp was organized to sensitize the
para military forces i.e. CRPF base camp Sector-43, Chandigarh and ITBP camp
Hallomajra. A lecture was delivered by Assistant Director Malaria wherein
emphasis was laid on the personal protection measures along with control
strategy for prevention of malaria.
An entomological exhibition was also
displayed at the camp for general awareness of the public by the Malaria Wing.
4.
Awareness
camp at Village Faidan: An awareness camp to educate the masses for
prevention and control of Malaria was organized in collaboration with the
School of Public Heath, PGIMER- Chandigarh.
5. Active
blood slide collection: Active blood slide collection was also done at various
places by Malaria workers.
6.
Field
surveillance: Breeding points i.e. coolers, haudi’s, over head tanks were
also checked by the malaria staff along with announcements on mega phone.
7.
Vector
Control Activities: Extensive spraying and fogging was done at vulnerable
locations throughout the city.
