Administrator UT, Chandigarh holds the first Open House for Redressal of Public Grievances

Chandigarh, 22nd May 2018: Towards bringing greater transparency and efficiency in governance, the Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Shri V.P. Singh Badnore launched the Punjab Raj Bhavan website and held the first Open House with citizens of Chandigarh. The Punjab Raj Bhavan website grievance portal is a 24x7 online access for citizens to submit their grievances.

During today’s Open House session held in UT Secretariat, Chandigarh, the Administrator heard the grievances of people from different strata of the society like individuals from fields of education, health, representatives of welfare associations, freedom fighters and villagers of periphery of Chandigarh. Associations like Sector Welfare Association, Chandigarh Traders Association, and Resident Welfare Association raised varied issues which required immediate attention of the administrative officers. The purpose of the Open House was to directly listen and address grievances of people.

Sh. J.M Balamurugan, Secretary to Governor of Punjab, Sh. Anurag Agarwal, Home Secretary, Sh. A K Sinha, Finance Secretary, Sh. Ajit Balaji Joshi, Deputy Commissioner, Sh. B L Sharma, Education Secretary,  Sh. Jitendar Yadav, Commissioner Municipal Corporation, Sh. Arjun Sharma, Director Information Technology, Smt. Nilambari Jagadale, SSP, UT, Chandigarh and Sh. Rakesh Kumar Popli, Director Public Relations were also present during the Open House.

The Administrator directly listened and addressed the grievances of each person individually. The complaints and issues were recorded /discussed with the officers and instructions were given by the Administrator to ensure timely redressal of grievances by taking prompt action.

Total of 41 complaints were addressed in today’s Open house. Issues related to Municipal Corporation, Estate, Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Health, Police, Education, Social Welfare and Chandigarh Housing Board were addressed during the Open house.

 The Administrator assured that timely action will be taken on all the issues/ complaints taken up during the session today. A review meeting will be held within 10 days with the concerned officers to submit their action taken report.

Concluding the meeting today, the Administrator emphasized that holding such meetings will be formalised as this is a good medium to know the genuine grievances of citizens of Chandigarh and seek suggestions from them. Such interactive meetings with the citizens also create a high sense of responsibility among the officers of Chandigarh Administration in the right direction.
