State level Cooking competition under World Skill Competition 2018

Chandigarh, 5th May 2018: Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Hotel Management Catering and Nutrition, Sector 42-D, Chandigarh, an autonomous body under Ministry of tourism , GOI, organized State level Cooking competition under World Skill Competition 2018. The grand finale of the World Skill Competition is scheduled to be held in 2019 at Kazan, Russia.

For increasing the awareness, the Skill Development Ministry has tied up with all states and UTs' Skill Development departments for the same. Out of 50 odds disciplines of the competition, Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Hotel Management, Chandigarh is collaborating with UTCSDM for the said cooking competition.

This was open to all the residents of Chandigarh born after 01-01-1997. Earlier, initial screening was done through a level 1 cooking competition where 60 candidates registered at the web portal and were called for 1st round in this Institute on 11th , 12th and 13th  of April 2018. Top 7 were shortlisted by eminent Jury from the industry and also the observers appointed by UTCSDM.

Today, the state /UT level competition is held where in top 2 selected candidates amongst 7 will represent Chandigarh at the regional level (North Zone). Subsequently, the zonal winners will proceed to national level. At the end, top 2 scorers at the nationals will represent India at Kazan, Russia. During the entire process till now, the shortlisted students are trained in the Institute under the guidance of professional Chefs.
Principal of the Institute, Sh. Arvind Varma said, “We hope to get good results and the first time organising such an event will give it a great popularity. This is like a SKILL OLYMPIAD, where in students having various technical skills have the opportunity to showcase their talent and get recognition at the global level.”
