Chandigarh, 7th June, 2018: A Regional
Review Meeting of Malaria and other vector Borne diseases is being organised in
Chandigarh with participation of programme officers from 15 states/UTs,
representatives of various civic bodies and Associations like IMA etc.
The meeting is
organised by National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), Govt of
India with World Health Organization. The meeting was inaugurated on 6th
June 2018 by Dr. P. K. Sen, Director- NVBDCP, in presence of senior officials
of Department of Health of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh. Dr. Nicole Seaguy,
Team Lead-Communicable disease and Dr. Roop Kumari, National Professional
Officer of WHO India Office were also present. Dr. G. Deewan, Director Health
Services Chandigarh also presided over the function and welcomed the delegates.
The basic
objective of this meeting was to discuss the State Implementation Plan of
Malaria and other vector borne diseases for the year 2018-2019. Malaria is
targeted for elimination by 2030 in phased manner and set to eliminate this
disease from the 15 states which are participating in this meeting by
2020.Consultations amongst various stakeholders will strengthen strategic
implementation of programme components. Strengthening of
vector control response was also emphasised.
