MASSIVE ANTI RABIES DRIVE IN RURAL AREAS OF CHANDIGARH

Chandigarh, 24th August, 2018: The Department of Animal Husbandry U.T. Chandigarh has organized Massive Anti Rabies drive in the villages of U.T. Chandigarh in the last two months in coordination with Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals working under the Presidentship of Sh. Ajit Balaji Joshi, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, UT Chandigarh.
These camps were held in village Sarangpur, Behlana, Daria, Raipur Khurd, Raipur Kalan, Makhan Majra, Mauli Jagran, Kishangarh, Khuda Alisher, Khuda Lahora, Kaimbwala from 30th May, 2018 to 24th August, 2018. During the camps 970 dogs were vaccinated free of cost against Rabies.
On the eve of last camp at village Kaimbwala, Sh. Tejdeep Singh Saini, PCS, Director Animal Husbandry-cum-Vice President SPCA revealed that these camps were great success and proved to be very useful for livestock owners and Rural population. In future also such types of camps will be organized in villages of Chandigarh in coordination with Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Chandigarh on yearly basis to combat dreadful disease of Rabies in Animals as well as its transmission in human beings.
These Camps were organized under the supervision of Dr. Kanwarjit Singh, Joint Director Animal Husbandry–cum-Hony General Secretary SPCA, Gram Panchayat village, Veterinary Doctors of Animal Husbandry Department and Dog Catching team. He told that Rabies is an infectious viral disease that is almost always fatal following the outset of clinical signs. He added, that in upto 99% of cases, dogs are responsible for rabies virus transmission.
During the camps pamphlets were distributed and also short film was displayed for the awareness of residents regarding how to prevent Animals from Rabies and fight against the scare of stray dogs. The Department was able to organize such successful camps with tremendous support of public in villages, co-operation of Gram Panchayat and Dog Catching team.

“Vote for Healthy Democracy” Campaign

Chandigarh, 18th March, 2019: Taking the “Vote for Healthy Democracy” campaign forward to motivate citizens to use their Right to Vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections of Chandigarh, Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh today launched a stamp with the message of "Voting is your Right, Please Cast your Vote". The stamp will be included on all the OPD cards of the patients who visit the hospital.  This initiative is a part of the drive undertaken by Medical Community to motivate more and more people to participate and vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
