Chandigarh, September 11: The
Punjab Governor and Administrator UT Chandigarh, Sh. V. P. Singh Badnore remembered
the heroes of Saragarhi Battle and paid homage to all the soldiers of 36 Sikh
Regiment who relentlessly fought and laid down their lives while fighting a
tribal attack in the North West Frontier Province on September 12, 1897.
In a message issued here
today on the eve of Saragarhi Day, the Governor said that the Military History
needs to be revived for the coming generations so as to make them aware of the
immense contribution of the Punjabis in exhibiting indomitable courage while
protecting the borders of our country.
The battle of Saragarhi
stands out as an iconic moment in India’s military history which speaks volumes
of the valour of the soldiers, said Sh. Badnore.
