Conducting of 20th Quinquennial Livestock Census in U.T. Chandigarh


Chandigarh, September 28, 2018: The Department of Animal Husbandry & Fisheries, Chandigarh Administration will be organizing 20thLivestock Census in U.T. Chandigarh on 1st October 2018 as per the guidelines received from Govt. of India, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, New Delhi. The Animal Husbandry & Fisheries Department is the Nodal Agency for conducting Livestock Census in Chandigarh.
During the Census, extensive field survey will be done where enumerators shall visit each and every household / non household / enterprise to record number of animals according to their breeds and other characteristics. This includes domestic animals, data of stray cattle, dogs, poultry fisheries, small animals and agriculture equipments as per schedules prepared by Govt. of India.
It is for the first time that 20th livestock census will be conducted digitally using tablet computers for data collection. The Animal Husbandry Department organized a final training program of officials who have been engaged for collection of data. During training, tablet computers with internet connections were distributed. The team will start data collection from 01-10-2018.
Sh. Tejdeep Singh Saini, PCS, Director, Animal Husbandry & Fisheries U.T. Chandigarh inaugurated the training program today. He apprised that the census is of great importance to know the population of livestock / Poultry in the region so as to formulate and implement different beneficiary schemes for livestock farmers launched by Govt. of India from time to time. He gave instructions to all the field staff to complete the work within stipulated period with devotion and responsibilities.

Dr. Kanwarjit Singh, Joint Director, Animal Husbandry, Chandigarh revealed that the Department has engaged 53 officials from Animal Husbandry & Municipal Corporation along with other Departments. The department has completed all the preparation for smooth conduct of Livestock Census in Chandigarh (UT). He appealed the public to extend their full co-operation and support to the officials who visit their areas for data collection in urban and rural areas for successful completion of this gigantic task.
