Notification

Chandigarh, 3rd October 2018:   The following draft Notification, which the Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh proposes to issue, in exercise of the powers conferred on him under Section 227(1) of the Punjab Panchayati Raj Act, 1994 (as applicable to Union Territory, Chandigarh) read with Clause (zd) of Section 227(2) of the act ibid is hereby published as required under the provision of Act, ibid, for information of all the person likely to be affected thereby.
Notice is hereby given that the draft Rules shall be taken into consideration by the Chandigarh Administration on or after the expiry of a period of 30 days from the date of publication of this notification in Chandigarh Administration Gazette. Any person interested in filling the objection against the proposed draft Notification may do so in writing to Director, Department of Rural Development & Panchayats, Chandigarh Administration within a period of 30 days.
In exercise of the powers conferred under sub-section (1) of Section 227 of the Punjab Panchayati Raj Act, 1994, (as applicable to the Union Territory, Chandigarh), the Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh is pleased to amend the Chandigarh Panchayat Election Rules 1994 as notified by the Finance Department, Chandigarh Administration vide Notification No UTFII (10)/94/12716, dated 26th September 1994 as under:-
1.     These rules may be called the Chandigarh Panchayat Election Rules (first amendment) Rules 2018.
2.     They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the official Gazette.
3.     They shall apply to the Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad constituted under the Punjab Panchayati Raj Act, 1994, as extended to Union Territory, Chandigarh.
4.     After Ruled 17 of the Chandigarh Panchayat Election Rules 1994, a new Rule 17-A shall be inserted as under:-
“17-A Voting Machines at Elections-Notwithstanding anything contained in these rules, the giving and recording of votes by voting machine  be in such a manner, as the Election Commission may having regard  to the circumstances of each case, specify

Explanation- For the purposes of this Rule “Voting machines” means any machines or apparatus, whether operated electronically or otherwise, used for giving or recording of votes and any reference to such voting machines wherever such voting machine is used at any election.
