Chandigarh, 1st
November, 2018: Chandigarh Police was raised after
the declaration of Chandigarh as Union territory on 1st November, 1966. The
first Chief of Chandigarh Police was Sh. V.K. Kalia, SSP. The post of IGP was
created in the year 1981 and 18 Inspector General’s of Police have been
appointed till date. Presently, Sh. Sanjay Baniwal, IPS is the Director General
of Police. Today the number of police personnel in Chandigarh police has
reached more than 6000 to maintain security, law & orders and traffic
arrangements in the city.
This year also, Chandigarh Police is
celebrating “Chandigarh Police Week-2018” from 1st November, 2018 to 7th
November, 2018, which has become an annual feature. The basic objective of
Police Week is to build a close bonding with the members of the public and to
form stronger partnerships between Police and the communities they serve. The
Police week is being organized to build public interest, support and to reduce
the gap between the Police and public. During the Chandigarh Police Week,
celebrations will definitely bring community, people, citizen forums, students
closer to Police and to build up the desired trust and rapport as required.
Chandigarh Police has been continuously striving to keep the city safe &
secure. Various units of Chandigarh Police like District Police, PCR, Operation
Cell, Security Wing, Traffic Police keep working round the clock to provide
best policing services to the citizens.
To mark this occasion, today, a
parade was organized in Police Lines, Sector 26, Chandigarh. Hon’ble Governor
of Punjab & Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, was the
chief guest on the occasion. Sh. Parimal Rai, IAS, Advisor to the Administrator,
UT, Chandigarh, Sh. Sanjay Baniwal, IPS, Director General of Police, Dr. O.P.
Mishra, IPS, DIG/UT, Sh. Milind Mahadeo Dumbere, IPS, SSP/Headquarters, Sh.
Shashank Anand, IPS, SSP/Security & Traffic, Ms. Nilambari Jagdale, IPS,
SSP/UT and Sh. Ravi Kumar, IPS, SP/Operations, along with other officers from
Administration & Police department, their families and retired police
officers of Chandigarh Police were present at the function. Sh. Sanjay Baniwal,
IPS, Director General of Police delivered welcome address to the Hon’ble guests
as well as to audience.
Hon’ble Governor of Punjab & Administrator,
UT, Chandigarh, Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore appreciated Chandigarh Police and wished
all employees of Chandigarh Police on this occasion of 52nd Raising Day.
Hon’ble Chief Guest in his address said, “Chandigarh Police has been identified
as professional, committed, responsible and accountable police force in these
52 years since 1966”. Chandigarh Police has wide role and contribution for
making city beautiful secure and safe. Many steps have been taken by Chandigarh
Police for the security of Senior Citizens and Women. Traffic management and
traffic law enforcement now has become identity of Chandigarh Police. Hon’ble
Chief Guest again wished Chandigarh Police for his Citizen friendly efforts.
Hon’ble Chief Guest highlighted important initiatives started by Chandigarh
Police. Chandigarh Police initiated first automated manpower placement software
in country. Special training programme for school teachers to equip them with
necessary skills to identify early stages of drug addiction and risky behavior
in students has been started by Chandigarh Police which is an appreciable step.
To handle cyber related crime more effectively a state of the art cyber
directorate will be established soon in Chandigarh. Tricity co-ordination is
necessary for crime control. Chandigarh Police has been successful in
controlling law and order situation, traffic management and crime control in
the city. At last Hon’ble Governor of Punjab & Administrator praised and
gave compliments to all officers of Chandigarh Police for their best parade.
